Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Coordinate efforts of department staff and assist in performing all functions required for the efficient operation of the accounting department, with particular attention given to maintaining a high level of quality and to completing assignments on a timely basis. Develop and maintain the financial reporting necessary for leadership to run the business and make informed and sound decisions. Communicate effectively with the Controller regarding status of work. Effectively supervise all direct reports and provide supporting oversight of indirect reports. Be able and flexible to work additional hours as needed to complete assignments.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Accountancy or related field. Three years to Five years experience in organizational accounting; not-for profit experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee daily operations of assigned Accounting Department verticals and provide effective supervision to subordinate staff.
  2. Ensure the accuracy of all financial statements, including general ledger analysis reports, and supporting schedules and work papers.
  3. Provide technical accounting expertise in all assigned areas.
  4. Develop and produce all required weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc reports on a timely basis.
  5. Introduce fund accounting and ensure that restricted funds are handled appropriately.
  6. Utilize advanced analytical skills to review reports and identify potential areas of opportunity and concern to senior and executive management.
  7. Assist in documenting systems requirements for a new comprehensive accounting system.
  8. Develop, revise, and implement departmental policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the accounting department.
  9. Ensure staff are sufficiently cross-trained to develop staff capabilities and so that absences/vacancies do not critically affect accounting operations.
  10. Responsible for general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, etc.
  11. Provide technical support for various software programs, such as NAV, CYMA, Quickbooks, Microsoft Office products. Actively participate in the selection and implementation of a new comprehensive accounting system.
  12. Ensure quarterly and annual tax filings are prepared and reviewed submitted as required.
  13. Serve as Cash Management point of contact by overseeing daily cash position, recording incoming and outgoing transfers, and preparing cash projection reports.
  14. Interface with CFO and Controller on internal control policies, internal audit functions, tax filings, independent audit functions and accounting projects. Work with Controller to implement an organization wide internal control program.
  15. Lead the preparation for and coordination of the year-end audit analysis, workpapers and financial statement preparation, working alongside external auditors.
  16. Communicate with government agencies and auditors as needed, and provide reports and documentation as requested.
