Description:

The General Counsel acts as chief legal officer of the organization, responsible for all company legal activities and providing strategic legal advice to the executive team and board of directors. This role provides strategic guidance, consultation, and support to the organization on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues involved in carrying out the mission and vision of Visual Comfort & Co. The General Counsel ensures the company’s legal interests are protected and all business practices, policies, and dealings comply with relevant
laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:Legal Strategy and Compliance:

  • Provide oversight and leadership for all legal needs of the company, advising across multiple business
  • functions.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies which align with the company’s business objectives.
  • Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations which may affect the company and provide timely updates to
  • management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admitted to the state bar.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with significant experience in a corporate legal department
  • or law firm. Prior experience as a General Counsel or in a senior legal role is preferred.
  • Public company legal experience is preferred including experience in supporting all aspects of securities
  • law compliance and SEC reporting/disclosure requirements.
  • Proven track record and previous demonstrated ability to manage legal matters and provide strategic
  • counsel in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Subject matter expertise in international manufacturing and sales industries a plus
  • Strong understanding of corporate law, contract law, employment law, and intellectual property law.
  • Confident, enthusiastic, and persuasive communication style. Excellent written and verbal
  • communication skills with the ability to translate “legalese” to common terms and plain language.
  • Effective leader and proven executor with a mature sense of priorities and solid practical experience.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters and provide strategic legal advice.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • A collaborative team player who promotes the concepts of people working together versus individual
  • performance.
