Description:

Are you ready to play a crucial role in ensuring our jobsites are prepped, safe, and efficient? MacKay Contracting Ltd. is looking for a dedicated General Labourer to join our team. In this vital position, you’ll help maintain the cleanliness and safety of our worksites, supporting the smooth and timely operation of our project crews. Your efforts will contribute to delivering the highest quality products and services, exceeding customer expectations, and enhancing our safety profile.
Location & Hours:
This role is based out of our Cranbrook, B.C. headquarters. You’ll generally work Monday through Friday, with some variability depending on job locations and client requirements. While travel to job sites and occasional overtime may be required, it won’t be a major component of the role.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Site Preparation and Maintenance: Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards.
  • Traffic Assistance: Assist Traffic Controllers with managing traffic near work zones.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform general fueling and lubrication of equipment.
  • Excavation Work: Dig ditches, trenches, and backfill excavations using picks, shovels, and pneumatic tampers.
  • Structural Support: Erect and dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, and traffic barricades.
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and distribute building materials, machinery, and tools.
  • Measurement and Marking: Measure, mark, and record areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Concrete Work: Position and dismantle forms for pouring concrete; mix, pour, and spread materials.
  • Structural Assembly: Position, join, align, or seal structural components like concrete wall sections or pipes.
  • Utilities Installation: Assist lead pipelayers during utilities installations and perform confined space entry/concrete grouting.
  • Reading Plans: Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities.
  • Equipment Signaling: Signal equipment operators for machinery alignment and movement.
  • Reporting: Complete and submit daily timecards and FLHA reports.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
