JOB SUMMARY

Gould’s Home Furnishings is looking for an experienced General Manager. We require a positive, team-oriented manager to set and meet sales and operational goals and to ensure that every member of the team is delivering in accordance with the high standards of the company’s defined goals.
The basic function of the General Manager will be to work directly with the company Owners to oversee and direct the operations of the sales, service and warehouse/ delivery departments. All activities of the General Manager shall always be carried out in a professional and ethical manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of direct work experience in a retail management capacity.
  • Experience in all aspects of sales, including growth strategies, distribution channel management, account development, and business planning.
  • Strong knowledge of retail and/or wholesale sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to examine and re-engineer sales operations, form new policies, develop and implement new strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct all aspects of a retail operation.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments, key business partners, and customers.
  • Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Experience creating incentives and compensation plans.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings, exhibits, and other events.
  • High level of proficiency with point-of-sale software packages.
    Salary: $100,000 annual salary plus quarterly and annual bonuse

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in developing a budget and business plan for the profitable operation of all departments and manage to reach or exceed the agreed-to goals.
  • Create and implement job descriptions for his/her subordinate managers and employees.
  • Delegate specific job functions to their respective departments.
  • Train, hire, review and evaluate subordinate managers and employees.
  • Oversee each manager’s review and evaluation of his/her employees.
  • Help solve any recurring problem that is beyond the scope of a manager or employee.
  • Supervise the execution of the merchandising, pricing, display and sales plans for all products.
  • Supervise the execution of the advertising programs and sales promotions.
  • Oversee the management of inventory purchasing, receipt and delivery processes.
  • Oversee the point of sale and customer relationship management systems and processes.
  • Review sales and financial performance daily, weekly and monthly (with the Owners) and determine and implement changes that may be needed to meet sales, turns and margin budget projections.
  • Provide for the maintenance and security of business buildings and property.
  • Act as a role model for company policies.
  • Take an active role in representing the company in the local community.
  • Attend manufacturer and association training meetings and business schools as required.
