Description:
The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
SUMMARY
- The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the General Service Assistant Position in the General Services office.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Psychology, Law, Business Management, Communications or related majors
- Two (2) years of experience in logistics, procurement, project management, administrative/business management, or quality management and six (6) months of supervisory experience is required.
- A detailed knowledge of all Department of State regulations pertaining to GSO activities, including Federal Acquisition Regulations, Department of State Acquisition Regulations, Federal Travel Regulations, the Foreign Affairs Manual, and the Foreign Affairs Handbook is required. Thorough knowledge of administrative and office procedures and a general understanding of USG organizational structure in an Embassy as well as exceptional knowledge of practices relative to a wide range of services available to the GSO customer is required.
- Knowledge of host country business practices (e.g., bargaining practices, cultivating relationships with government and private sector contacts) as well as the general structure of local administrative offices such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diplomatic Services Bureau, Customs, Tax Authority, Motor Vehicle Authority is required.
- Good oral and written communication skills, to include ability to write clear and concise documents, reports, program and policy guidelines and ability to deliver oral presentations is required. Must have excellent interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills. Must demonstrate the ability to work with customers in providing clear, concise guidance and training.
- Must be comfortable working with Embassy personnel and be able to respond with courtesy in handling stressful situations. Must be an analytic thinker, and a problem-solver. Ability to type with emphasis on accuracy and a proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) and GSO-related software is required.

Responsibilities:
- This is a position that oversees the varied portfolios of Customer Service and Travel.
- The position holder will assist two entry level Assistant General Services Officers at post to provide service support to GSO customers.
- The position supports LE Staff employees and American direct-hires and their families assigned to Abuja and reports to the Supervisory General Services Officer (SGSO).
