Description:
GeoScan is excited to offer an outstanding opportunity to become the Department Manager, Geophysics. In this key leadership role, you will drive the strategic direction and operations of our geophysics department, leading a young, dynamic team in conducting innovative geophysical surveys across diverse environments. You will be responsible for overseeing projects, ensuring top-tier quality, safety, and client relations, while expanding the department’s capabilities.
The Geophysics department at GeoScan conducts a wide range of specialized surveys for clients across diverse industries. Our services include investigations of residential schools, archaeological site exploration, bedrock mapping, site characterization, environmental contamination assessments, and void locating. With expertise in advanced geophysical methods, we deliver precise and reliable subsurface data tailored to meet the unique needs of each project.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years in a leadership role within geophysics, preferably within shallow geophysics, or a related field
- Education: A university degree in a GeoScience-related discipline (Geophysics, Geology, Environmental Geoscience preferred).
- Certifications: P.Geo or GIT (preferred but not mandatory), Certified qualification in a GeoScience field.
- Skills: Strong business writing and communication skills, experience in data analysis, and technical report creation. Knowledge of community engagement strategies.
- Software Knowledge: Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic (EM) surveys required. Familiarity with Civil3D, AutoCAD, GIS, GPS, and other geophysical tools.
- Other Requirements: Valid BC Driver’s License, flexibility for field and office work, and willingness to travel frequently.

Responsibilities:
- Department Leadership: Develop and implement departmental goals and operational strategies, leading a team to conduct accurate, high-quality geophysical surveys.
- Project Oversight: Plan and manage geophysical projects, including budgeting, site preparation, equipment setup, and calibration. Ensure timely project completion.
- Field Work: Conduct Geophysical surveys using, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic (EM) surveys amongst other
- Data Processing: Analyze, process and review geophysical data using a variety of methods and tools
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, Indigenous communities, and other key stakeholders, ensuring high client satisfaction and cultural sensitivity.
- Research & Reporting: Conduct research, provide detailed analysis, and present reports to senior management. Deliver presentations and maintain communication on project status and department achievements.
- Innovation & Technology: Stay updated on the latest geophysical methods and technologies, pushing the boundaries of non-invasive subsurface imaging and mapping.
- Team Mentorship: Train and mentor junior geophysics technicians, ensuring skill development and adherence to safety and operational procedures.
- Compliance: Maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism in line with company policies and industry regulations.
