Responsibilities:

WHAT ROLE YOU WILL PLAY IN OUR TEAM

Under the guidance of an experienced Imperial Oil geologist or geophysicist, interns will apply petroleum geoscience principles and techniques employed in the exploration, development or production of oil and gas opportunities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Typical intern projects involve a technical evaluation focused on opportunity identification of the hydrocarbon potential of an area or field, using several of the following methods:

  • Integration of 2D or 3D seismic, well, and geological data into viable interpretations and multiple scenarios
  • Core description and well log interpretation for analysis of depositional environments and reservoir characterization
  • Utilizing 2D or 3D seismic attributes and reflection geometries to help develop local and regional sequence stratigraphy models and basin-fill models
  • Rock physics based seismic modeling and inversion
  • Advanced well-log analysis (petrophysics)
  • Utilizing paleoclimate, basin-fill, and plate reconstruction models to delineate new opportunities
  • Integration of reservoir and production data for field enhancement
  • Construction of 3D geologic reservoir models by defining and describing reservoir rock characteristics, flow geometries, and continuity

Projects are chosen based on a combination of business need and the intern’s skills and desires. Interns will work on active exploration, development or production projects where they get an opportunity to provide valuable contributions to the team of experienced geoscientists. Teams in which interns work may include in situ or mining heavy oil/oil sands development or production. At the close of the work term, a summary report documenting the project and providing recommendations is presented to team members and Imperial Oil geoscience management. Work hours follow a standard Monday to Friday schedule.
