Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly qualified Geotechnical Engineer with operational experience to join our team.
As the Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting mine operations, operational processes, and risk mitigation strategies. Your expertise will be critical in applying effective geotechnical principals and engineering to ensure safe operations in the open pit mines.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Degree in geotechnical engineering, specializing in rock mechanics or a relevant discipline.
- Minimum 3 - 4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Designation as a Professional Engineer in the Northwest Territories or working toward the ability to obtain this designation.
- NWT WCB Supervisor Level One or Level Two certification or the ability to obtain this.
- Advanced experience with industry software such as RocScience suite, GeoStudio, and Maptek suite.
- Experience managing multiple mining and/or construction related projects simultaneously
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting
Responsibilities:
- Organizing and conducting slope monitoring systems and other geotechnical data collection management
- Maintaining and evaluating the Ground Probe Radar data, procedures and work instructions
- Ensuring the open pit mining operations are maintained to confirm an acceptable level of risk from geotechnical hazards on a daily basis
- Provide geotechnical designs and operational instructions to support the open pit operations at EKATI
- Researching and evaluating systems and equipment that may improve the safety and efficiency of the mining operations;
- Assessing geotechnical stability of open pit slopes and wedges and recommend appropriate ground support
- Reviewing and updating the Ground Control Standards on a regular basis and ensuring the Ground Control Management Plan for the open pits is followed and implemented at all stages of the mining process
- Ensuring that the mine engineers are provided with the required geotechnical data to allow them to develop optimal mine plans
- Complete mine inspections, internal reporting and issue technical reports as needed
- Developing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Work Instructions (WI) for all tasks related to the above responsibilities for the combined mining operations, and
- Conducting hydrology & hydrogeology studies, providing dewatering designs and operational instructions to manage water ingress and inrush risk to the mine operations.
- Completing internal reporting as required.
