Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The selected Software Engineer will be responsible for software development and support of the GMD Fire Control (GFC) suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon System (GWS) program in Colorado Springs, CO.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design and development of product software
  • Ensure software standards are met
  • Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with minimal oversight and direction
  • Apply a holistic systems approach to ensure developed products are scalable, maintainable, and meet end-user needs
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Communicate openly and effectively with teammates and customer representatives

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience. Maximum years’ experience not to exceed 10
  • Recent demonstration of developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as Ada, C, C++, or Java
  • Strong Math background, specifically linear algebra, probability, and numerical methods
  • Strong Physics background, specifically Orbital mechanics, gravity and earth modelling
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
  • Active US Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must be able to support an in-person, closed-area work environment 100% of the time

SPECIAL SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Experience with Missile Defense Agency systems
  • Understanding of continuous integration/delivery
  • Experience with algorithm/SW optimization and debugging skills
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Understanding of Agile software development practices and DevSecOps
  • Experience with version control software and tools such as Git, Gitlab, Nexus Repository, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government customer personnel
