MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Key Essential Job Duties/Physical Requirements:
- A minimum of 5-8 years of relevant frontline fundraising, relationship management, and/or complex program management experience is preferred, including previous experience soliciting 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and juggle multiple competing priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment.
- Familiarity with pediatric healthcare fundraising and/or organizations supporting pediatric oncology patients and families is highly desirable.
- A good sense of humor and humility, and an eagerness to actively participate in the team’s collective success.
- Provide outstanding customer service to internal partners, donors, board members, JCC leadership, and the general public.
Days/Hours/%Travel:
The position will be primarily Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week during regular business hours. Local travel to different agency sites and locations may be required. The Development team currently operates on a hybrid model and is typically in-office 2-3 days per week. During the camp season, the Gift Officer will spend significant time on-site at Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago and may office out of the Lake County JCC.
Education Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Previous Experience:
- 5 - 8 years of related nonprofit and/or fundraising experience.
- Prior experience in individual giving, corporate giving, volunteer or board management, and donor engagement preferred, including direct solicitation of 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce/NPSP or other similar CRM/donor management software highly desirable.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, twist and/or walk on a frequent basis throughout an 8-hour day.
- Mobility: Repetitive movement of arms and hands to operate computer, smartphone, keyboard and mouse.
- Ability to frequently push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally may need to lift more than 20 pounds.
- Mental Abilities: Attention to detail; manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines.

The Development team at JCC Chicago is seeking a dedicated Gift Officer to lead the fundraising strategy for Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago. Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago is the first full-summer, full-day camp for children with a pediatric cancer diagnosis and their siblings, serving kids from age 3.5 to 16 years old and provided completely free of charge. In addition to our 8-week summer camp, Sunrise also encompasses Sunrise on Wheels in-hospital programming at our partner hospitals (including Advocate Park Ridge, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Rush University Children’s Hospital) and year-round events and community programming for campers and families.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Gift Officer will be responsible for a comprehensive donor cultivation, solicitation, and engagement strategy that will expand our community of support for Sunrise. The Gift Officer will actively manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, foster new partnerships, and grow awareness and resources for Sunrise programming, which is fully funded by philanthropy.

Key areas of responsibility:
- In partnership with the Chief Development Officer, develop and implement a multi-faceted fundraising strategy to support to Sunrise-Chicago operations and programming.
- Actively cultivate, solicit, and steward a robust portfolio of key donors and prospects.
- Provide leadership and staff support for the Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago Advisory Council.
- Cultivate donors and partners through on-site tours, visits, and engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to plan and implement Sunrise’s annual marketing strategy to elevate sponsorship opportunities, events, and fundraising initiatives.
- Partner with the Manager, Donor Engagement on the planning and execution of SunriseWALKS, our annual community fundraising and friend-raising event in support of Sunrise.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago and Agency staff.
- Work directly with the Director of Sunrise Day Camp-Chicago and Director of Operations to identify specific operational and capital funding needs.
- Serve as the staff liaison to Sunrise Association for all Development-related activities.
- Contribute to organizational planning and strategy for the Development Department
- Support the Chief Development Officer with special projects on an ad-hoc basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
