We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced GIS specialist to grow our geospatial capability in Canada. In this position, you will work on interdisciplinary project teams with engineers, planners, and consultants on a diverse range of infrastructure projects in Ontario, across Canada, and around the world. This position is based in our Toronto office.

Specific duties are likely to include, but are not limited to:

  • Applying planning knowledge to collect, transform, manage, analyze, and present geospatial data on a range of transportation and infrastructure projects;
  • Designing, creating, and publishing maps for a range of transportation and infrastructure projects;
  • Creating web maps and other digital platforms for team members and clients to interact with geospatial data;
  • Educating and training a range of non-GIS colleagues in geospatial concepts and technologies in support of the wider consulting business;
  • Liaising with GIS colleagues across Mott MacDonald to identify and mobilize best practices, enterprise systems, and other group-wide GIS resources available to projects in Canada;
  • Co-ordinating the deployment of public (open) and proprietary geospatial data sets in the Canadian business;
  • Creating, customizing, testing, and implementing scripts to streamline GIS workflows

Candidate Specifications:

  • A team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment;
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g. Geography, Computer Science) from a recognized university;
  • 6+ years of practical GIS experience relating to infrastructure: transportation, water resources, and/or energy;
  • Experience working with public-sector data sets in Canada (municipal, provincial, etc.)
  • Strong interest and passion for technical topics within the domain of transportation and infrastructure: e.g. active transportation, public transportation, social outcomes, sustainability and climate change, etc.
  • A knowledge of spatial analysis workflows and work with spatial data;
  • A good design sensibility;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Technical leadership capability;
  • Proficiency with ESRI technologies/ArcGIS suite of products;
  • A growth mindset;
  • Some scripting/ programming ability (e.g. Python) is an asset
