We are seeking a Technical Assistant to work in the Distribution Engineering Department. Under the direction of the GIS Group
Leader, you will assist with the administration, population, maintenance, storage, acceptance, and dissemination of the associated
eGIS databases of electrical distribution facilities information and land base information. The majority of the work is to be done using
the GE Smallworld Core and Design Manager software, AutoCAD, and ESRI ArcMAP. You will assist other workgroups with the
production and maintenance of distribution drawings. You will confirm plant information with field checks and data acquisition. You
will conduct various types of Cadastral data collection for placement and locating of distribution plant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A diploma in Geomatics Technology or Civil Technology specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technology

from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of two years of directly related experience.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of distribution system terminology, symbology, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability of assembling cadastral data and preparing detailed and accurate land base plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining accurate electric distribution system data in the eGIS Distribution databases.
  • Produce and maintain accurate overhead and underground distribution plans, both rural and urban, sub transmission plans,

and complex distribution facility schematics (including feeder, phasing, and fuse coordination schematics).

  • Prepare detailed, accurate land base using GE Smallworld Core and ESRI ArcMAP software and perform land base

management for electric and gas facility moves.

  • Insert and georeference consultant drawings and/or other land base using FME or SOMS tools.
  • Conduct field checks to ensure the accuracy of the distribution data and the location of equipment using FDC (Field Data

Collection) software, DGPS, laser rangefinder, and digital photos.

  • Perform technical Cadastral Data Collection for the placement and verification of overhead and underground plant in rural and

urban areas as required using GPS or conventional collection methods.

  • Liaise with Distribution Planning & Design staff, field staff, public utilities, and others, to obtain or supply pertinent information

on existing or proposed distribution plant to facilitate drawing accuracies, drawing preparation, and maintenance of the eGIS

Distribution databases.

  • Assist with or prepare accurate work order design drawings (including “as built” status) and crossing drawings (river, railway,

pipeline) and ensure those drawings follow Manitoba Hydro electric and gas drafting standards by working closely with staff in

the Design Section.

  • Archive Distribution drawings into EDMS.
  • Perform complex spatial analysis (create and run data queries and reports of electric and gas data) for internal customers as

requested.
