Description:

Title: GIS Technologist
Location: Calgary, AB
Direct Report: GIS Technologist
H3M Environmental Ltd. provides environmental, archaeology, and regulatory expertise across Western Canada supporting clients in upstream and midstream oil and gas, municipal infrastructure, Indigenous communities, utilities, forestry, and commercial/industrial sector projects. As a full-scale service provider.
The candidate will be responsible for GIS program cartographic support, including analysis for GIS projects, gap analysis, geospatial analysis, database design, and maintenance. The candidate should be experienced with ESRI desktop and web-based products, including ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, ESRI extensions, and ArcGIS Online. The candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic work environment, be willing to learn about the disciplines they support and be able to multitask and prioritize work accordingly.

Role and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Create and maintain mapping templates in compliance with regulations and standards as indicated by clients. This work will be reviewed by a senior professional.
  • Follow company guidelines and best practices while applying technical and professional knowledge to create leading edge solutions and products that streamline processes.
  • Regularly check notifications from clients to ensure that projects are being completed and clients are being notified in a timely manner.
  • Take ownership of projects from initiation to completion while assisting teammates with workloads to ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
  • Perform peer review QA/QC checks on all figures being sent to clients.
  • Support field or project teams through the ArcGIS Online Platform (Field Maps, Survey 123, Web Mapping Applications, Dashboards)
  • Regularly update Standard Operating Procedures and keep the team informed when workflows change.
  • Organize and update datasets regularly as new information becomes available.
  • Maintain geospatial data in both online portal and local geodatabase environments.
  • Assist senior staff to analyze and interpret the results of the data.
  • Collaborate with operations staff on mapping requests and provide suggestions.
  • Ongoing training within the team to keep up to date with new technology and processes as they are implemented.
  • Training new employees on how to use H3M’s GIS Platform.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma from a recognized post-secondary technical institution, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5+ years of hands-on Geospatial industry experience.
  • Extensive experience with the ESRI ArcGIS software suite (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online would be an asset).
  • Knowledge of DLS and NTS land survey systems.
  • Knowledge of Oil & Gas industry practice and terminology of upstream, Midstream, and Downstream sectors.
  • FME ETL software, Python programming, and Model Builder experience would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Raster and LiDAR datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and command of the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • High-level organizational and time-management skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Proven ability to take initiative, be a self-starter, and be a quick learner.
