The Global Head, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) supports the Global Ocular Health / Pharma franchise at Alcon. This strategic leader establishes the overarching HEOR strategy of the franchise in alignment with Alcon’s commercialization and market access strategy and has a proven track record of generating evidence to support market access for global pharmaceutical products; creates effective and productive partnership with cross-functional partners across the enterprise to influence strategic development and commercialization decisions; collaborates with a team of HEOR professionals to drive and execute HEOR research strategies to support the key global markets; applies thought leadership and scientific knowledge of health economic analysis, real world data generation, driving scientific share of voice, and successfully executing the downstream value communication strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent HEOR in all major strategic decisions at portfolio level and support Franchise strategies.
- Recognized leader in Ophthalmology and in HEOR.
- Support the development of clinical, economic, and patient-centered value propositions.
- Influences global product strategies and franchise’s relevant cross-functional teams.
- Oversee the development and implementation of Global HEOR strategies that demonstrate the value of Alcon products to optimize brand value, and secure optimal reimbursement or funding.
- Effectively collaborate with external research partners to ensure projects are scientifically rigorous, medically relevant, and address business needs as well as the needs of patients, health care providers and payers
- Collaborate with home office and region-based internal experts in the development and execution of field-based, customer-focused initiatives (e.g., models, dossiers, value communications tools, etc.)
- Ensure full integration and timely input of HEOR in franchise strategy (Disease Area Strategy, portfolio strategy, technology strategy, etc.), Target Product Profiles, Stage Gate plans, Clinical Development Plans for new compounds and proposals for GFT
- Deliver HEOR product strategies to meet annual and long-term Franchise needs within budget and resource, in close collaboration with Market Access
- Supports reimbursement strategies, assessments, and decision-making
- Informs payer strategy through collaboration with local markets
- Lead, coordinate and coach cross-functional teams of HEOR associates, PRO experts, modelling experts and scientific and database analysts to deliver HEOR strategies
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to research support staff; serve as an internal resource for research design, HEOR methodologies, analytic techniques and reporting of health economic and outcomes research
- Provide and maintain scientific HEOR leadership and integrate it with relevant scientific, clinical and commercial developments in therapeutic area
- Build and contribute to research partnerships with academic institutions, stakeholders, thought-leaders, KOLs, patient groups, customers and contract research organizations to optimize HEOR impact
- Ensure that Alcon’s clinical development programs include outcomes measures that are appropriate and meaningful to patients, health care providers, and payers
- Strategize global HTA access scenarios, obtain HTA feedback on our development program, and integrate that feedback into our global product strategies
- Ensure research strategies and findings are effectively communicated within Alcon, including to regions and externally at congress and manuscripts
- Provide HEOR support to BD&L in evaluating licensing or other external collaboration opportunities in close collaboration with Market Access

Education
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or business discipline
- Preferred Doctorate, Masters or equivalent in health economics, epidemiology, health services research, biostatistics
Experience
- Minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience plus people management experience
- Preferred Pharmaceutical experience in HEOR/clinical research or public health and significant experience in direct management or cross functional management.
Language
- English fluent, other languages a plus
