KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in medicine, public health, international development, or development management.
  • A proven track record in developing / leading the development of winning technical proposals.
  • Extensive experience in core areas of international health sector consulting / programme management such as global health security, health systems strengthening, pandemic preparedness and response, antimicrobial resistance.
  • Significant relevant experience leading and implementing major projects in low- and middle-income countries. Ideally with significant field experience in leadership positions in relevant contexts.
  • Leadership and management experience with teams of health professionals.
  • Ability to operate at pace to deliver high quality services in cross-cultural contexts.
  • Excellent communicator with excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong networks with key clients

Responsibilities:

ROLE PURPOSE

The Global Health Sector Lead will provide overall technical and commercial leadership for all health work in the Division, with a particular focus on winning major bids and expanding the client base in 2025. The Sector Lead is responsible for all technical aspects across the portfolio of global health projects, leading the strategic growth of the portfolio, ensuring professional excellence and overseeing the network of Projects Technical Leads. The Sector Lead works closely with the Divisional General Manager (DGM) to guide the investment in health professional and technical excellence to position for major bids and thought leadership activities.
Reporting to the Divisional General Manager, this role is part of the Divisional Senior Management Team. (This is a hybrid role - part home working in the UK but with an expectation of a minimum of 2 days a week in the London office).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Global Health portfolio, with a focus on ensuring clear strategic direction for growth, technical excellence and thought leadership.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for growth of the portfolio: Proactively build the pipeline; lead the regular review of new health prospects. Ensure a focus on those opportunities that best align with our technical expertise and / or that are consistent with technical growth aspirations as defined in the Unit Business Plan.
  • Work with the Divisional Resource Manager and the Business Development Lead to identify Bid Principals, Bid Managers and Technical bid writers, and work with bid teams to develop the technical approach for major bids, ensuring that we draw on our core expertise and experience in global health security and health systems strengthening to produce winning proposals.
  • Take on Bid Principal roles on major bids as required and supervise Bid Principals on other major bids to ensure the delivery of successful in accordance with WIN processes and requirements.
  • Work with the Divisional Resource Manager to identify project technical leads and work closely with them to ensure successful implementation of projects, addressing emerging challenges and providing technical expertise where required to address these. This will include periodic visits to major projects to meet with clients, project teams and partners.
  • Lead external client engagement efforts to cultivate and manage relationships with key partners, including USAID, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, UK Department of Health and Social Care and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to Bid Principals / Technical Leads on major bids, support positioning by meeting with clients and potential partners, undertaking capture missions where appropriate, and quality assure the submission of high-quality winning bids.
  • Work with the DGM and the Divisional Resource Manager to identify the recruitment and development needs of the team of health professionals to support the successful delivery of the Business Plan.
  • Lead discussions to prioritise investment on professional excellence activities for the health sector. Develop and support Thought Leadership products to build the reputation of Mott MacDonald, building on existing work and responding to emerging trends and issues.
  • Continue to strengthen and make effective use of networks with key clients to engage with and influence the technical direction of new prospects, highlighting lessons being learnt from existing projects.
