Job Description :
Global Supplier Excellence Manager
Location: London or Edinburgh
About us
From Arthur Guinness to Johnnie Walker, our business was founded on people of great character, and in 250 years, nothing’s changed. We’re the world’s leading premium alcohol company. Our brands are industry icons. And our success is thanks to the diversity of our talent and strength of our people, in every role. It’s why we trust them with our legacy. And it’s why we reward them with the career-defining opportunities that they deserve.
Our ambition is to create the best performing, most trusted and respected Consumer Products Company in the world. To achieve these, we need the world’s very best people.
About the role
This is a global leadership position that sits within Diageo’s Procurement structure under our Global Supply, Diversity & Excellence Pillar. You will collaborate with both regional and global leaders to develop and implement strategies with our key suppliers. The role will be crucial in achieving Diageo’s sustainability goals, including our ‘Spirit of Progress’ and ‘Grain to Glass’ initiatives.

This team is an enabler to developing external roadmaps with a prime focus on sustainability and environmental goals (scope 3 / ESG). We are focused on developing world class category strategies and in-market Procurement resources focused on excellence in execution of category strategies and supplier performance management.

  • The purpose of the role is twofold: First is to create, lead and embed transformational external roadmap strategies into our holistic global category strategies, which in turn become embedded into our market implementation plans.
  • Secondly is to Lead, support and inspire a team of 4 ‘Supply Excellence Sourcing Leads’, who will own the external roadmap transformation plans of our most critical suppliers. They will draw on the experience gained from our internal sustainability efforts and ensure the necessary visibility, planning, and investment to achieve our Grain to Glass strategy.
  • Although the role will sit within the Supply Diversity & Excellence team, which represents the whole of the procurement organisation, the individual will work very closely with the Grain to Glass Strategy Teams to embed strategy into the roadmaps.

About you
We are looking for an individual with a drive to be the best: a brilliant influencer and a global leader that can bring our internal procurement and sustainability teams together through the enablement of external road maps & joint business plans with the prime objective of delivering Diageo’s 2030 Spirit of Progress ambitions through our external eco-systems.

Key accountabilities include

  • Attend the ‘Global Supply & Sustainable Procurement’ monthly leadership meeting to demonstrate progress against our initial critical supplier segmentation model.
  • Establish and lead Diageo’s supplier excellence procurement governance with a high focus on Scope 3 / ESG ways of working through the development and deployment of external roadmaps.
  • Coach and Inspire the Supplier Excellence team and influence the broader Procurement stakeholders to align workstreams with the new ways of working, ensuring we have the detail, rigour, support and acceleration required to reach our overall strategy.
  • Lead the agenda and strategy for developing a digital reporting system for scope 3 roadmaps, data governance to deliver our Grain to Grass Strategic outcomes through Procurements external eco-system.
  • Support the GSSP (Global Supply & Sustainable Procurement) leadership team with bold, radical ideation to develop reporting transparency across our critical supply base and bring alive the 2030 ‘Spirit of Progress’ and ‘Grain to Glass’ deliverables.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal & external collaborators at a regional & global level, whilst developing strong relationships at executive level within our most critical external suppliers and partners.
  • Support the development of the new procurement processes to optimise engagement & collaboration with key suppliers to deliver our upstream, Spirit of Progress & Grain to Glass ambitions.
  • Lead the integration of findings across our total supply base to drive scale & pace across the critical supply community.
  • Work closely with the Global Category Directors & Supplier Diversity Excellence team to lead the roll out of priorities and projects at a supplier level to deliver scope 3 and ESG reductions.
  • Establish strong governance for the project, ensuring visibility and accountability from the working level up to senior executives, including the Chief Procurement Officer, President of Supply, and CFO.

Experience, skills, capabilities required

  • Ability to be creative, ideate and work through ambiguity and use unconstrained thinking.
  • Graduate or equivalent or member of professional bodies e.g. CIPS / IEMA.
  • 6 Sigma / Lean project skills highly desirable
  • Knowledge / use of Planview (for resourcing project requests) and Salesforce for resource and value delivery.
  • Significant procurement & sustainable procurement experience preferably direct supply categories, indirects & marketing.
  • Excellent data, analytics, and insight skills.
  • Excellent understanding of the category management process.
  • Demonstrated performance when both leading and working on programs with global cross-functional teams, experience in implementing programs aligned to category and Procurement strategies.
  • Experienced negotiator & influencer, capable of delivering great outcomes when managing high value & complex programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes, manufacturing excellence and material supply chains desirable.
  • Strong analytical and financial awareness including an understanding of Total Cost of Ownership and end to end value delivery. Use of advanced data and analytics (cost modelling & projection) to drive best in class strategies and negotiation plans beneficial.
  • Ability in leading Supplier Collaboration/Supplier Relationship Management programmes desirable.
