ABOUT THE ROLE
One of the main benefits of Polkadot is its sophisticated on-chain governance mechanism, which allows for all DOT holders to participate in determining the future of the network. This includes not just technical changes like code upgrades and parameter changes, but also control over the on-chain Treasury and the ability to signal the wishes of the users to the developers via the “Wish-for-change” track.
With so many DOT holders having a vote, coordination is necessary. This role would involve discussing upcoming governance proposals and changes, providing feedback, and developing plans both at the tactical level (e.g., helping teams with their proposals or determining if a specific proposal is malicious) and the strategic level (e.g. improving the governance process itself and working on initiatives such as Decentralized Voices). This would also involve understanding the governance structure itself at a deep level and communicating this in talks, tutorials, blog posts, and other media. It would also involve interacting with other teams at Web3 Foundation whose work intersects with or depends on on-chain governance activities (e.g. Public Policy and Technical Education), and reporting on the current status of the on-chain governance system.
We are a lean team with a flat organisation. You will work closely with team members in Zug and remote locations, as well as with diverse service suppliers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the broader Polkadot ecosystem on governance-related issues
- Develop initiatives to improve decentralization and stability of on-chain governance mechanisms
- Read, understand, and report on governance, both quantitatively and qualitatively, to a variety of stakeholders (technical and non-technical)
- Analyze Referenda, Bounties, etc. that are proposed by the community, and/or propose your own
- Communicate to the Polkadot community about governance initiatives via workshops, talks, blog posts, social media, and other media
