Job Description:
Provides support for the graduate admissions process to all students, faculty and the campus community. Responsible for admissions processing, determining graduate admission requirements, transfer of credits, and residency for students enrolling in graduate programs. Helps support recruiting activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Determines admissibility, transferability of credit, and residency for students in graduate programs (degree seeking and non-degree seeking). Serves as a liaison between prospective students and the academic departments regarding the status of their applications, admissions and enrollment. Tracks applicants through the admission process and works with other university constituents to advance and follow up on incomplete files. Coordinates the application waiver and refund process. 30%
Implements university policy regarding the conduct code, transcripts, and required admission documentation and ensures adherence to rules regarding university admission. Performs credential evaluations for international and domestic prospects. Enters student data and admission decisions into the appropriate systems. Meets with prospective students to explain graduate education, guide them through the admission and enrollment process, including directing them to other appropriate offices or departments on campus. Produces reports as requested. 20%
Oversees resolution of applicant challenges regarding the admissions process. Makes recommendations and keeps current the procedures manual for the admissions processing area. Makes recommendations to the Director on procedures used to implement university rules from admissions through acceptance into the university. Serves as a trainer for the admissions unit. Responsible for systems testing of admissions modules. 20%
Facilitates informational workshops, orientation sessions for campus employees, and training efforts to provide assistance and guidance related to Graduate Recruiting and Admission processes. Assists in designing content and materials for such sessions. Represents the office in events as determined by supervisor. 15%
Participates in cross-training with other Graduate School personnel, and assists in covering these duties as assigned. Provides regular reporting about job tasks, and assists in identifying areas for process improvement. Assists with special projects. Performs other tasks as assigned. 15%
Additional Requirements:
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Additional Information:
Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use computer, calculator, copier, scanner, telephone and other office equipment; ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time using continuous hand motions.
May be required to work additional hours during peak admissions and graduation cycles or to meet project deadlines.
