JOB SUMMARY
ArtCenter College of Design is searching for a Part-Time Extended (PTX) Graduate Graphic Design Instructor with expertise in business strategy and innovation related to brand, creative direction, and product design, to join our team.
Graduate Graphic Design
Building on the expertise of our internationally renowned undergraduate graphic design program, the Graphic Design MFA fosters technical skills, individual craft, transmedia fluency, next-generation leadership, strategic thought, and professional development. Through courses in critical writing, narrative, typography, 3D motion graphics, cross-media branding, web design, historical analysis, and more, students’ll cultivate dexterity with the growing demands of modern “mediatecture.”
Master of Design in Brand Design and Strategy
In ArtCenter’s online Master of Design program, students will explore the broader constructs of successful brand strategy, including audience, revenue streams, business practices, points of contact and messaging. With a focus on graphic design, students will deepen skills in leading and managing teams while developing strategies for brand inception, adoption and integration. Through hands-on partnerships, students will apply expertise in practical settings, whether students choose to display potential in current workplace or to form new networks for building post-graduation career.
Product Design
ArtCenter’s product design major prepares students to enter a workforce with the highly sought after design, research and analytical skills necessary to thrive as a creative mind in a variety of professional environments. Under the guidance of our faculty of working designers, students will develop products that improve lives while gaining a keen understanding of what it takes to succeed as an entrepreneur or within an existing organization. If students’re especially interested in the business side of design, students can spend a semester in INSEAD business school’s top-ranked MBA program.
Creative Direction
The creative direction major establishes visual and verbal fluency in the languages of communication—including film, video, photography, graphic and interaction design, social media, digital engagement and app conception. With a strong and competitive foundation in advertising practices, research, and marketing our courses will help students craft compelling narratives in traditional and digital spaces to drive consumer interest.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- +20 years of professional / teaching experience in business strategy and innovation
- BA / MFA in Design & MBA degree preferred.
- Experience in teaching subjects related to product design, brand design & strategy and graphic design.
- Extensive professional experience with startup and establish businesses, domestically and internationally.
- Experience teaching in master’s degree level subject related to business, brand design, strategies, and innovation.
- Experience teaching in different modality and usage of collaborative tools such as Zoom, Miro, Figma, Slack, etc.
- Working knowledge of emerging tools such as AI for market strategy and business solution.
- Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion and recognize the confidential nature of ArtCenter business, as well as requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Must be able to work with and understand our culturally diverse student and faculty body with their needs and goals.
- A commitment to DEIAB and culture, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities.
Responsibilities:
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach master’s degree level brand design & strategy course(s).
- Teach humanity and science course(s) related to product design, business strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
- Teach creative direction course(s) related to marketing, business strategy, financial implications, and innovation.
- Develop course(s) and curriculum focusing on business / entrepreneurship related to design and innovation.
- Assist in creating visibility and recognition for the program among prospective students, the design community, creative industries, and potential donors and sponsors.
- Mentor and guide students in and beyond the classroom.
- Student portfolio and scholarships reviews.
- Peer Mentoring.
- Provide guidance to department of latest business and innovation trends related to brand design & strategy.
- Maintain external relationships with designers and business leaders experienced with diversity, inclusions, and equity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Part-Time Extended faculty members are expected to contribute to the further evolution and visibility of the program by activities such as:
- Provide instruction and feedback during scheduled class hours or meetings
- Provide asynchronous instruction and feedback, as applicable for the course
- Maintain, track, and report student attendance through the Learning Management System (“LMS”), and report issues of student attendance to the Department Chair, Associate Chair, or Assistant Chair
- Prepare instructional materials and class syllabi (aligned with current department curriculum Program Learning Outcomes and Course Learning Outcomes) in LMS and other College tools or templates;
- Before week one of classes, distribute syllabi to students, and College administration pursuant to College guidelines
- Post student grades in required tools by required deadlines
- Communicate with students through the College’s official LMS, Zoom, at on campus meetings and ArtCenter sanctioned events, and/or ArtCenter email or other pre-approved methods and/or platforms of communication only
- Facilitate course evaluations through the College’s evaluation protocol;
- As required by the Department Chair, Associate Chair, or Assistant Chair, participate in communication of courses by providing relevant materials to and communicating with departments
- As required, provide materials for assessment according to accreditation standards and department and College compliance.
- Schedule a reasonable amount of time to hold student consultations outside of class to expand upon and/or clarify classroom instruction
- Write student recommendations, if requested by the department or the student
- Remain current on college procedures, tools, and learning modules
- Complete required learning modules related to federal and state requirements and ArtCenter policies pertaining to health and safety rules, regulations and practices, as assigned by Employee Experience and Engagement Department
- Attend required department and other administrative meetings
- Attend required college-wide meetings
- Participate in Faculty Performance Review/Evaluation process
