GENERAL SUMMARY

To provide Hydraulic Engineering expertise to the Original Equipment (OE) or Aftermarket (AM) Business with a focus on supporting Customers, Sales, Tendering, Operations and Field Service activities globally.
As a Graduate Hydraulic Engineer, your primary duty is to undertake a defined range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements. You are required to liaise with different departments and disciplines in order to ensure an effective & productive outcome while continually maintaining high quality & standards. You will drive pump design integrity, quality, and safety to maximize customer specification compliance. Your daily role includes, but not limited to, hydraulic selection, design calculations, hydraulic modelling / drawings, performance curves, test standards, hydraulic logs, and technical documentation for manufacture, supplier, and client interfaces. Providing technical support on tender enquires and interfacing with customers, from a hydraulic perspective will be a key requirement.
Working in a collaborative manner to satisfy the needs of the project and the internal and external customers is essential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experienced in the application of classical design tools and techniques to undertake the full range of Hydraulic Engineering Design tasks with only limited supervision to support project execution.
  • Experience in performance test data analysis and processing for compliance against specification.
  • Ability to adapt within own function and learn new skills.
  • Familiar with CFD tools for modern hydraulic design and analysis methods and familiarity with industry norms and standards.
  • IT skills required for specific functional software, both as user and ability to influence software development.
  • Team working ability and an attitude of collaboration, mentoring and flexibility.
  • Desire and ability to train other team members on the skills of the function.
  • Willingness and confidence to communicate (written and presentation) with a professional and knowledgeable approach and manner to all levels, including Senior Management, Shopfloor as well as Customer and Supplier representatives.
  • Deputize for the Lead Hydraulic Engineer where appropriate.
  • Provide support to other functions for hydraulic related problems associated with the product range.
  • Observe the need to apply cost effective solutions and participate in ensuring costs are controlled within estimates.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate Degree or an Apprenticeship coupled with a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering and relevant industry experience.
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to set and hit personal and team deadlines.
  • An interest in self-development, Pump & related Package Technology, and engineering
  • Experienced in the provision of realistic, accurate and cost and lead time estimates for Hydraulic Engineering execution.
  • An active and valuable team participant who puts team success before individual success.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct engineering activities on Project Execution on ETO and CTO contracts, and where applicable New Product Development and improvement initiatives.
  • Review and Interpret Customer Specifications and apply industry standards where appropriate and work to optimize the company’s product offerings.
  • Work under the technical guidance of Hydraulic Engineers, Hydraulic Design Manager and with Lead Engineer and/ or Snr Mechanical Engineers and others within Engineering and other functions in a collaborative manner to achieve project deliverables.
  • Provide hydraulic technical support through the full product lifecycle from pre-ward through design/make to in-service site support.
  • Undertake the full range of Hydraulic Engineering Design tasks including, but not limited to, hydraulic selection, hydraulic scaling, hydraulic design, hydraulic layouts, hydraulic modelling, performance curve generation, hydraulic systems analysis, review of PTBS, hydraulic logs, impeller and volute diffuser modification, performance test assessment and hydraulic data maintenance.
  • Able to complete new hydraulic design activities utilizing classical methods and more advanced CFD tools in the development of new designs and optimization of existing designs.
  • Perform hydraulic performance modification analysis and calculations to meet specification requirements for new equipment, upgrades, and re-rates.
  • Experience in the engineering associated with Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids and impact of multiphase fluid phenomena on pumps and systems.
  • Helping team to achieve project deadlines, delivered with desired quality, cost and efficiency.
  • Works to develop functional skills and advanced disciplines of self.
  • Interface and support downstream activities post design phase (shopfloor, test, commissioning, and warranty)
  • Help maintain of company standards relating to the hydraulic discipline to standardize products, processes, tools, and calculation procedures to reduce lead-times and risk.
  • Assist with standardization and Value Engineering projects.
