SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Ideally you will have strong practical experience across a broad spectrum of legal matters preferably in a private practice or in-house environment. Along with this, you will also have:

  • Bachelor of Law (or appropriate overseas equivalent) and the entitlement to a NZ Practising Certificate
  • Current NZ practicing certificate (or the ability to hold one)
  • Minimum of 1 year’s legal experience
  • Knowledge of key legislation and regulations around corporate governance, health and safety, employment and privacy are preferred
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills

Responsibilities:

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and high performing individual to join our in-house Legal team.
Reporting to the Head of Legal & Risk, the position of Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal support to the Legal team while delivering expert legal advice to the wider business and ensuring all risks are assessed and minimized. This position is ideally suited for someone with a can-do and customer focused attitude who can demonstrate proactive, pragmatic and commercial approach to legal issues. The candidate must have the ability to operate autonomously however, they can always draw upon the skills and knowledge of the rest of the Legal team.

Other duties include:

  • Negotiating and drafting customer and supplier contracts
  • In-house litigation management and dispute resolution assistance
  • Contract analysis and reporting
  • Troubleshooting legal and commercial issues to ensure speedy resolution
  • Ensuring relevant legislation is reviewed and contracts are updated accordingly
  • Policy inception, revision, and ongoing management
  • Advising on company compliance and regulatory obligations
