The Project Engineering Group is part of the Applied Science Division based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) near Oxford.
The group provides mechanical engineering and project management to a wide range of exciting projects inside and outside including ISIS neutron source, Diamond Light Source, CERN, Central Laser Facility, the international Particle Physics community and RAL Space.
The group delivers project management, design, manufacture, procurement, assembly, installation, integration, and commissioning of sophisticated mechanical systems in support of these national and international scientific research projects.

The team is looking forward for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join us in 2025. With support, the successful candidate will:

• Work with, and understand the requirements of projects set by the customers.
• Produce designs and concepts through the use of 2D & 3D CAD systems.
• Produce FEA analysis/calculations to validate designs.
• Work with Scientists to develop novel technological solutions.
• Take on ownership and management of project delivery of work packages with support from more experienced colleagues.
• Procure manufactured items and bought out components.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of novel scientific equipment
