We offer relocation support packages for this role (Barrow-in-Furness based roles), subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Graduate programme you will be required to attend your site up to 5 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As a Graduate Metrologist Engineer, you will be working within an exciting and collaborative team, which pulls together knowledge and expertise from multiple engineering disciplines (including Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic and Software specialisms), to develop, deploy and support complex measurement and monitoring systems.
The Metrology department’s work involves taking instrumentation equipment and systems throughout their entire lifecycle from requirements to prototype, testing, commissioning and deployment. The department is involved in using specialist measurement equipment (e.g. micrometers, voltmeters, multimeters and pressure gauges) to take accurate and repeatable measurements for a wide array of parameters in new and unique ways (including temperature, dimensions, accelerometry, mass, pressure, shock, non-ionising radiation, ionising radiation, noise and vibration, torque, voltage and current).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Building, integrating and testing bespoke instrumentation solutions where suitable commercial options aren’t available.
- Supporting novel research projects connected to advance and novel sensing (e.g. how to sense strain).
- Supporting emergent site instrumentation projects identifying effective solutions to emerging problems related to metrology and calibration.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing in-service monitoring systems installed throughout the Barrow site (e.g. detecting and monitoring ionising and non-ionising radiation).
- Helping to deploy, operate, and maintain monitoring systems used to support various manufacturing and trials activities across all submarine build programmes.
- Managing data quality and integrity for manufacturing and trials instrumentation systems while Understanding emergent measurement technologies and systems developed by other institutions (e.g. National Physics Laboratory).
