Description:

ABOUT US

National Energy System Operator (NESO) has a key role to play in tackling climate change by transitioning GB’s electricity system to net zero. We already operate the fastest decarbonising electricity system in the world, with an ambition for zero carbon power operation by 2030 when there is sufficient renewable generation. We are also providing advice to the Government on achieving a decarbonised power system by 2030.
NESO recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Responsibilities:

Have you ever wondered how we keep the electricity flowing and the lights on for all electricity consumers in Great Britain? If so, joining our 18-month Graduate Development Programme gives you the opportunity to develop your skills in a key role in this by joining the National Energy System Operator (NESO) as a Graduate Power System Engineer and be part of the core team that is working to operate a carbon free electricity system by 2035.
As a Graduate Power System Engineer, you will be contributing to developing the future energy system. Depending on the requirements of the team you are working alongside, opportunities may include creating, developing and informing our understanding of future challenges, looking at potential solutions in technical, economic and market fronts.
You’ll be involved in activities responsible for the identification and mitigation of operability risk in an economic and efficient manner in strategic timescales – supporting analysis and development of the necessary codes/control strategies required, and will also be supporting the department activity of publishing the technical and economic findings in various publications aimed at industry, and regulator and supporting strategic follow-up to develop whole system solutions which address the issues identified.
