Description:
At GHD, we don’t just believe in the power of commitment, we live and breathe it every day.
If you want to start a career with impact, whether solving everyday problems through to tackling some of the great challenges our clients and communities face, you’ll find that here. That’s why we pledge to empower all our people to make a positive impact and ensure you’re provided the necessary training and experiences to make those aspirations a reality.
We know community impact is important to our staff. Our GHD in the Community program partners with not-for-profit organisations to provide opportunities to work on pro-bono projects, volunteering and fundraising for philanthropic and humanitarian causes. As a business we also funnel some of our profits into the GHD Foundation, a registered charity that works to address disadvantage and inequality in children accessing STEAM education in our countries of operation.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for students from either:
- a Bachelor of Science (majoring in either Geology, Environmental science or hydrogeology) . An honours in your degree would be preferred but not essential, or
- a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering.
We are interested in applicants that have completed units in the areas of chemistry, hydrogeology or environmental geology and also students that have gained any work experience in the mining industry. These are not compulsory but will help build a foundation for the role which you are in.

The Power of Commitment is our brand promise. It’s what makes us different. We are bound to our stated vision and determination to address humanity’s most urgent needs: to make water, energy and urbanisation sustainable for generations to come
Responsibilities:
Based out of Hobart, the position will require you to travel to sites both across the state and interstate, including in remote areas. Initially with strong support and training from the team, as your graduate career progresses you’ll have the chance to work independently as well. Some of your regular activities will include:
- Rock and soil sampling
- Drilling supervision
- Groundwater sampling
- Data analysis & reporting
- Supporting senior scientists with more complex interpretative reports
This role will allow you to have the opportunity to work with multiple mining and civil clients across Australia (and internationally) to support their environmental goals. You will have access to mentorship from several senior geoscientists with specializations in geochemistry, hydrogeology and mine closure and remediation. You will benefit from being part of multidisciplinary collaborative approaches to problem solving, and gain a well rounded understanding of the mining industry.
