Job Title Graduate Submarines Software Engineer
Location Barrow (Cumbria)
We offer relocation support packages for this role (Barrow-in-Furness based roles), subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
Start Date 8th September 2025
BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Graduate programme you will be required to attend your site 3-4 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. The hybrid working arrangements including which days you are required to work on site/remotely will be outlined by your line manager.

SKILLS

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or a similar STEM subject which involves coding.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Do you want to help design and develop software systems that are key to the build and operation of Submarines? Do you want to be involved in the development of cutting edge systems and technologies to maintain our Submarine’s competitive edge during operations? Then this is the perfect role for you.
As a Software Engineering Graduate, you could be completing work in a variety of specialist teams across the business including in build, in service and support teams of all classes of submarine (Astute, Dreadnought and SSNR). You will be involved with the design, development, testing and integration of a variety of complex software systems. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in all stages of the software engineering lifecycle, from requirements through to release as well as support of in service submarines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production of software architectures and designs based on each submarine’s requirements.
  • Implementation of requirements and design utilising a variety of programming languages and tools.
  • Design and development of software tests to prove a number of qualities including; functionality, robustness, performance.
  • Testing and integration of software and target hardware.
  • Support of lifecycle and product maturity activities such as design reviews.
