Grant Accountant

We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Grant Accountant in the Non-Profit sector, based in New York. This role involves overseeing financial procedures related to grants, including budgeting, expenditure reporting, and contract modifications. This position is integral to our team, ensuring the accurate handling and reporting of grant-related financial activities.

• Manage and keep track of contract expenditure reporting
• Assist in the identification of budget spending and the need for modifications
• Prepare monthly variance analysis to maintain control of billing to budget
• Oversee the preparation of annual budgets for agency government contracts
• Collaborate with Contract Manager to identify and prepare journal vouchers as needed
• Assist Contract Manager in recognizing and preparing budget modifications as required
• Maintain detailed and organized file histories for each government contract
• Enter budgets and modifications into accounting software for preparing billing/expenditure reports and variance reports
• Collaborate with Program staff to ensure proper management of contract spending and documentation
• Work closely with other team members to provide the best support for contract management
• Perform other related duties as assigned by Contract Manager and Assistant Director – Contracts
• Utilize skills such as Grant Accounting, Government Grants, Budgeting, Contracts, Contract Modifications, Expenditure, Billing, and Variance Analysis in daily tasks.
• Proficiency in Grant Accounting
• Experience with Government Grants
• Strong skills in Budgeting
• Knowledge of Contracts and Contract Modifications
• Understanding of Expenditure tracking
• Ability to handle Billing processes
• Experience in Variance Analysis
• Comfortable working in a non-profit environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is a plus.
