Description:

The Grant Accountant is responsible for the overall financial coordination and post-award compliance with all externally funded grants, contracts, and donor-restricted funds as well as ensuring financial compliance with all applicable federal, state and private sponsor requirements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Responsibilities:

  • Federal- and State-Funded Grants– Perform daily and long-range management of post-award grants/contracts accounting functions, in accordance with all sponsor requirements and federal, state, and private regulations concerning such awards. Assist with the preparation and submission of all periodic financial reports required for federal, state, or private awards as needed. Serve as liaison to external auditors in coordination of the YMCA’s annual Single Audit of grants & contracts. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all required internal and external partnerships in the effective delivery of accounting services. Ensure that all accounting activities are in compliance with applicable regulations, accounting standards, deadlines, and standard operating procedures.
  • Grant Budgeting & Reporting - Manage budgets for grants and ensure that expenditures align with approved budgets. Prepare and submit periodic financial reports to grantors in compliance with their requirements. Track and report on grant spending and maintain budget vs. actual comparisons.
  • Compliance & Monitoring - Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as specific grant requirements. Monitor grants to ensure that all financial activities conform to the terms and conditions of the award. Stay informed on changes to grant regulations and communicate those changes to relevant staff.
  • Financial Recordkeeping - Maintain detailed and accurate records of all grant transactions, including revenue, expenses, and reimbursements. Reconcile accounts related to grant funding and prepare monthly and quarterly reports as required. Perform the close-out process for grants, ensuring all final financial reports are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Audit Coordination - Prepare for and participate in audits of grant awards, ensuring that all required documentation is readily available.
  • Collaboration - Work closely with Senior Program Directors, Program Directors, and other program staff to support the financial management of grants. Assist in developing strategies to optimize grant funding and utilization.
  • Special projects as directed
