Description:

The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is a medium-sized, student-focused, charitable organization with a mission to represent and serve students. SAMRU is currently seeking a contract Graphic Designer to join our team.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER (CONTRACT)

The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is seeking a creative, skilled, and dedicated innovator to work with a small team providing graphic design for print, web, and digital publishing for our medium-sized, non-profit organization. In particular, the successful candidate will:

  • Design, illustrate and obtain approval of communication and marketing concepts;
  • Design, produce and layout posters, banners, annual reports, pamphlets, handbills, publications;
  • Produce illustrations, digital ads, web and social media graphics;
  • Have a good understanding of print production;
  • Have knowledge of typography and fonts;
  • Assist with the design and layout of the SAMRU website;
  • Prepare finished copy and art by operating printing and similar equipment;
  • Assist with production (printing and posting print deliverables) as necessary;
  • Complete projects by coordinating with clients, managers, in-house and outside printers, art services, etc.;
  • Promote SAMRU branding by applying the SAMRU style guide to all publicity and communications vehicles;
  • Help plan and implement publicity, marketing, communications and social media campaigns;

The successful candidate will have the following experience and credentials:

  • A relevant degree or certification/diploma with equivalent experience;
  • Computer skills and training using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat), Canva and Google Workspace;
  • Some experience in web editing, photography, videography and After Effects is also an asset;
  • At least one year of full-time related experience;
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment; a self-starter capable of initiating and monitoring own work and the work of others; able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of branding;
  • High level of attention to detail with proofreading and editing skills.

This is a nine-month contract position with an annual salary of $49,500. Although it is expected that the successful candidate will work regular daytime hours, some evening and weekend hours are occasionally required.
The successful candidate will also enjoy a progressive 35-hour work week and a flextime policy that allows them to bank time during peak periods and “flex-off” during slow ones. They will earn 1.25 days of vacation each month. SAMRU observes 13.5 paid holidays per year and provides three additional paid days off between December 26 and January 1, when the campus is closed.
