Description:

The Grounds & Facilities Maintenance Assistant HBCA (SGE) position will help with undertaking the daily maintenance program of Conservation Authority buildings and lands at Holiday Beach Conservation Area, Amherstburg and other conservation authority properties, as required. Various projects include grounds and trail maintenance, building and facilities maintenance and restoration activities. Other duties may include garbage collection, cleaning, general maintenance and painting, and other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Superintendent Field Operations.
This position is classified as a ‘Special Grant Employee’ as the tasks associated with this position are funded in whole or in part through Federal and Provincial agency funding sources. The period of this contract is May 12, 2025 through August 31, 2025 with possible extension(s) based on funding. *May include alternate days/times based on weather and/or business needs. This position may require weekend or holiday work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Per the Canada Summer Jobs funding program, this position is open to applicants:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • who have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Must be an Ontario resident and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Experience with landscaping equipment preferred.
  • Able to undertake and carry out a variety of job-related tasks with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent customer-focused orientation with the ability to answer simple inquires and/or direct to an appropriate individual.
  • Able to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a larger team.
  • Must possess a class “G” Drivers License valid in Ontario.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting (50 lbs) and ability to perform physically demanding tasks is required.
  • Provide own CSA Safety boots, rain gear, meals.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily maintenance of conservation area grounds, facilities, shoreline, beaches, picnic areas, trails, and parking areas.
  • Routine grass cutting, mulching, raking and trimming using power equipment such as weed whippers, lawn mowers, gardening and related hand and power tools.
  • Empty garbage containers and collecting litter as needed.
  • Ensure interior spaces are prepared for the next day by mopping, tidying, wiping, and washing surfaces in all facilities as well as restocking disposables.
  • Safely driving a truck and landscaping trailer to various conservation areas and job sites.
  • Routine maintenance of grass cutting equipment (monitoring liquids, filters, etc.)
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of park facilities, features and activities and answer questions and provide helpful information to visitors as required.
  • Report any hazards or damage to Supervisor.
  • Assist other staff when required to do so in various conservation area properties and other worksites and conservation area special events and site rentals.
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities consistent with the position as required.
