Description:
About us:
One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we’re on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
What you’ll do:
London is our International Business Headquarters, and your role will report to the Senior Tax Director with responsibility for the EMEA region and the Commercial Air business, who is located in the UK.
The Group Tax Manager will play a key role in ensuring that we are compliant with UK and other countries’ tax laws and file returns on a timely basis both for our UK entities and their overseas subsidiaries, together with certain other European entities from Viasat side of the group. In addition, ensuring timely and accurate reporting for both our US GAAP and IFRS reporting obligations will be a key part of your role.
You will work with a wide network of partners in the UK and our US head office in California to ensure that you have a clear understanding of the complexities of our business, and the activities happening in different countries. You can expect exposure to the tax aspects of commercial projects as well as supporting transactions such as financing and M&A.
The day-to-day:
You will be leading a small team of people responsible for UK and international compliance for a number of countries. In this hands on role, you will have direct involvement in both tax advisory and computational work and you will balance priorities of complying with mandatory deadlines such as tax return due dates and group reporting deadlines, together with longer term strategic projects. You will be part of our Global Tax Team and can expect to be working with colleagues in Europe, the US, Canada and elsewhere on a regular basis.
What you’ll need:
- At least 6 years of experience in a Tax role with significant exposure to UK corporation tax and cross-border tax matters.
- A tax focused professional qualification (e.g. ACA and/or CTA) is a must.
- Proven experience of tax accounting and tax compliance matters, together with experience of providing tax advice on a range of topics, in a Big 4 or international enterprise environment.
- Experience of working with multinational groups including UK groups with overseas subsidiaries.
- Exposure to VAT and other indirect tax matters would be advantageous but not essential.
What will help you on the job:
- Ability to handle complex accounting and tax issues and projects in a multi-tasking environment
- Confidence in interacting with partners at all levels in the organization.
- Attention to detail and a focus on deliverables, with a passion for tax technical matters.
- Experience of managing other team members and ensuring that workflow is appropriately spread between different individuals.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently while understanding the importance of elevating questions / concerns promptly.
- Ability to proactively build a strong and successful network within the different functions in our London office and the wider region.
- Due to the global nature of the business, you will need to be able to have some flexibility in your working hours to accommodate occasional meetings with people in other time zones.
