Description :
Reporting to the Coordinator of Services for Students, the Guidance Counsellor provides comprehensive guidance and career counselling to Vanier students and supports those students to enable them to achieve their goals through academic success, social and emotional adjustment and integration into college life.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Guidance Counsellor:
- Assesses students’ interests, aptitudes, values, personality, capacities and professional experience using appropriate methods;
- Administers and interprets psychometric assessments;
- Advises students with respect to educational and vocational choices;
- Meets with students individually, facilitates workshops and conducts presentations;
- Takes part in case studies within a multidisciplinary team;
- Collaborates with staff and faculty, as well as service providers or other agencies and organizations, and corresponds with the Ministry of Education as appropriate;
- Provides appropriate referrals and resource information to address needs the College may not be able to meet;
- Provides outreach to the Vanier community to promote awareness and use of the Service;
- Collects data and provides reports on the use of the orientation services;
- Liaises with High School Orientation counselors;
- Attends recruitment sessions in High Schools to provide information to prospective students;
- Collaborates with Student Services, particularly ATE and Employment Counsellor, to support students, provide outreach and develop initiatives;
- Maintains appropriate records;
- Acts a member of the Mental Health and Wellness crisis team.
Other related duties which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Requirements :
Qualifications:
- Hold the guidance counsellor’s permit issued by the Ordre des conseillers et conseillères d’orientation du Québec (OCCOQ).
Conditions related to the specific position:
- Excellent English written and oral communications skills (to be tested);
- Good French written and oral communication skills (to be tested);
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Word (to be tested);
- Proven knowledge of issues related to the CEGEP milieu and its student population;
- Good organizational skills;
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Expertise in facilitating workshops.
