JOB OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced Hardware Design Authority to take technical ownership throughout the entire product development life cycle for high-reliability aerospace and avionics systems. In this role, you will oversee hardware design from concept and prototyping to production and in-service support, ensuring quality, repeatability, and alignment with customer requirements.
You will work closely with product development teams, lead technical design efforts, and serve as a key decision-maker in the design process for cutting-edge electronics systems. If you have a strong background in electronic product design and thrive in leadership roles within structured design environments, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and take ownership of the hardware development life cycle for high-reliability products, ensuring designs meet technical requirements and are scalable for production.
- Analyze customer requirements and develop comprehensive hardware development and verification plans.
- Drive compliance with DO254, and assist in preparing estimates, schedules, compliance matrices, and costs for new bids and proposals.
- Perform FPGA design and lead the integration of electronic circuits and systems into embedded systems for real-world applications.
- Ensure all hardware designs meet stringent EMC/EMI requirements and are optimized for reliability, performance, and safety.
- Prepare technical documentation including material costs, timing estimates, reports, and design descriptions.
- Perform FMEA and root cause analysis at the board and component levels to ensure high-quality, fault-tolerant designs.
- Collaborate with systems, software, and product teams to ensure successful product integration and delivery.
- Support product installation, troubleshooting, and hardware debugging, including field support for embedded systems and customer site integration.
- Oversee the use of tools such as Orcad, MATLAB, PSPICE to support hardware development and verification.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in electronic product design, reliability analysis, and hardware systems, ideally in aerospace, avionics, or medical devices.
- Handson experience with VHDL design, FPGA development, and working within DO254 standards.
- Hardware development tools such as Orcad, MATLAB, PSPICE, and debugging/profiling tools.
- Proven experience with DO160 and other aerospace/avionics certification standards.
- Leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams and overseeing complex hardware development projects.
- Experience in control systems like Engine Control, Landing, Steering Systems is a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of FMEA, circuit analysis, and design traceability.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario or eligibility to obtain within one year.
