Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Hatchery Technician, you will be working in our Shellfish Hatchery to care for our oyster larvae and support our on-land nursery. Assisting the Hatchery Manager, your role is key in maintaining optimal conditions and meeting production targets so that we continue to deliver high-quality and sustainable Australian oysters to our customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Engaging in land-based nursery operations, including spat handling, grading and meticulous record-keeping.
- Conducting regular water testing, analysis and documentation to ensure hatchery and nursery conditions are optimal.
- Competently managing wild-caught spat, including delicate processes such as filling spat oysters into bags.
- Collaborating with the team to establish and refine best practices across the hatchery and nursery.
- Adhering rigorously to operational protocols to maintain the health and quality of our oysters.
- Monitoring and maintaining water quality parameters, undertaking routine maintenance tasks, and equipment upkeep.
- Monitoring estuarine conditions, including broodstock and hatchery-produced spat.
Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and public holidays, is essential for this role. Experience in an aquaculture hatchery, food safety or laboratory operations is highly desirable but not essential. Please note that a current driver’s licence is essential for this position.
