Lead Speech and Language Therapist- H&N Cancer - Band 8a
Part time (0.5 WTE) Base: Peterborough City Hospital
Band 8a
Due to investment we are able to expand our current H&N SLT service across Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
We are looking for an experienced H&N SLT to lead on developing this service and the SLTs within it.
Whilst you will be part of a small specialist team working within the H&N MDT, there are close links with the H&N service at Cambridge University Hospital.
You will also be part of a wider community of Speech and Language Therapists at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, where we provide adult inpatient and outpatient services.
They provide both day to day operational and line management of the SLT H&N team members and they are responsible for developing highly specialist competencies in other SLTs. They provide professional leadership and supervision in situations that are complex and unpredictable.

This lead role is the principle speech and language therapist for the head and neck cancer SLT service and is responsible for its oversight and its clinical governance.
They have expert knowledge and skills in communication and swallowing disorders as a result of head and neck cancer and its surgical and oncological treatment. They work within the H&N MDT across acute, outpatient and clinic settings.
They provide expert bespoke clinical assessment, differential diagnosis, management and rehabilitation plans.
They have expert skills in instrumental dysphagia assessments, i.e. Video-fluoroscopy and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), tracheostomy, laryngectomy and surgical voice restoration. They use these skills for highly complex decision making, managing a complete episode of SLT care.
They manage complex levels of risk, with due consideration for risks and benefits of different treatment approaches that is centred around the person with H&N cancer, recognising they are experts in their own lived experience.
They provide strategic direction for the Head and Neck Service to improve, develop and deliver a high standard of care in keeping with the departmental, trust, regional and national priorities.
They provide assurance to the SLT service lead and make them aware of any issues relating to area of expertise or service delivery.
