Description:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCE

  • Requires minimum 7+ years’ experience of leading a team within a commercial function, experience of leadership within high growth organisations preferred.
  • Requires minimum 15+ years’ experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry in commercial functions, vaccines and platform technology experience essential.
  • Experience of leading on strategic transactions and alliance management essential, experience of public health or LMIC markets preferred.
  • Experience of business model creation and valuation, landscape analysis and target partner identification essential.
  • Experience of working with matrixed cross-functional teams essential.
  • Experience of working internationally strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and negotiation skills.
  • A proven leader, able to empower and hold others accountable.
  • Forward focused, a learner and able to motivate others similarly.
  • Can challenge and disagree whilst maintaining relationships then commit to path forward.
  • Takes ownership of their work and delivers solutions even when there may be ambiguity or competing priorities.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a key component of delivering on CEPI’s mission, we are growing our Access and Business Development team contributing in three areas of business development and alliance management activities – 1. our work to prepare for and respond to outbreak of CEPI’s core pathogens through acceleration of product development and enabling equitable supply of those products, 2. our work to prepare for and respond to an outbreak of Disease X through acceleration of product development and enabling equitable supply of those products including vaccine libraries and work with regulatory systems and 3. our work to enable faster and more equitable development and supply of products through research, development and manufacturing enablers and networks.
The purpose of this role is to lead a team of professionals to develop business development strategy and deliver the business development activities and outcomes necessary for CEPI and its partners to prepare for and respond to an outbreak of Disease X through acceleration of product development and enabling equitable supply of those products including vaccine libraries and work with regulatory systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and motivate a high-performing team which:
  • Creates opportunities for initial investment and subsequent increased collaboration alongside technical colleagues such as the external development team and programme leads.
  • Frames funding mechanisms and deal structures, and ensures deals are led to their conclusion in a timely manner.
  • With our partners, drives the co-creation and evolution of sustainable business models and access plans that enable technical, commercial and equitable access needs to be met.
  • Builds trusting, long lasting and potentially multi-faceted partnerships capable of delivering CEPI’s objectives and acts as alliance manager to partners where assigned.
  • Identify, evaluate and address actual or potential issues with partnerships, making good business decisions in close cooperation with budget owner and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provides advice on business and alliance management strategy and inputs to strategy and portfolio approach.
  • Supports CEPI’s regulatory team in its initiatives towards systems equity.
  • Be an active member of the Leadership Team for Access and Private Partnerships at CEPI, effectively interacting with other teams and supporting the growth and maturity of the Department and broader Division.
