Description:

ABOUT BOOKSTIME:

BooksTime is an ambitious bookkeeping firm serving US-based clients. After 8 years of growth and hundreds of happy clients, we’re looking to build on our success by expanding into the Canadian market. Therefore, we are seeking a visionary co-founder for our Canadian operations.
The bookkeeping industry is changing fast. As remote work becomes more popular, small businesses can benefit from working with the best bookkeepers – no matter where in the world they are located. However, most small business owners don’t know how to find and effectively manage overseas talent. That’s where BooksTime comes in.
BooksTime currently has operations in 5 countries: the US, where we’re headquartered, as well as Georgia, the Philippines, UAE, and Ukraine.
With a global model, we can hire the best bookkeepers in the world, pay them good wages, and because of lower costs of living abroad, still offer extremely affordable prices to clients.
Traditional bookkeeping firms are inefficient, expensive, and often provide subpar service. By leveraging modern automation and AI tech, as well as our remote, global workforce, BooksTime is able to deliver higher quality bookkeeping at prices every business can afford.

WHY JOIN US:

  • Make an impact. This is a rare opportunity to be essentially a co-founder of a business unit with nearly unlimited scalability – but within the framework of an existing business that comes with an already-proven playbook, shared resources and other support. Enjoy the thrill of entrepreneurship, without starting from scratch.
  • Make history. We’re still small (about 115 people globally), but we have a huge opportunity to scale up the world’s first large, global bookkeeping firm. This is a great opportunity to lead growth in one of the most promising markets in the world.
  • Work that matters. Without reliable financial reports, people can’t run their businesses effectively. You can make a real difference in the lives of the millions of small business owners by helping them find a reliable, affordable bookkeeping solution.
  • Work that stays fresh. Things are constantly changing at a fast-paced, growing startup like this, so we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll never be bored.
  • Constant improvement. This is one of our core values. We can’t wait to hear your ideas about how we can do better – not just in Canada, but across the board. If you’re looking for a role that gives you ample opportunity to be heard and make a big impact - you’ve found it!
  • 100% remote, flexible work. No more commuting. No more cubicles. No more rigid schedules.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Canadian Accounting: Extensive knowledge of Canadian bookkeeping, accounting and tax regulations relevant to small businesses. Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
  • Proven Leadership Skills: Great at communicating a vision, managing people and helping them reach their potential. Several strong references from happy employees and colleagues will be requested, and will be key to hiring decisions. Experience as a Partner, CEO, COO, CFO, startup founder, or in similar roles is preferred, ideally at professional service firms.
  • Growth Driver: Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with ambitious growth goals is a big plus.
  • Independent Worker: Capable of working autonomously and taking significant decisions.
  • Pragmatic Visionary: Able to both dream big, but also to execute plans effectively to make those dreams a reality.
  • Relationship Builder: Excellent networking and interpersonal skills. This is a reputation and connection based business.
  • Experienced: The number of years is not the most important factor – we’re looking for someone with a clear track record of driving huge growth and impact. That said, the minimum is 5 years of relevant work experience. If faced with a choice between 5 years of exceptional performance and 25 years of “pretty good” performance, we’ll take the exceptional performer every time.
  • Tech-Savvy: A general interest in learning and using the latest tech is important. Additionally, experience in QuickBooks and/or Xero would be a big plus.

Languages:

English is the only language required for this position. However, fluency in any of the following languages would be a plus:

  • French
  • Ukrainian
  • Russian
  • Georgian
  • Filipino / Tagalog

Responsibilities:

As Client Service Leader for BooksTime Canada, you will be responsible for overseeing all services provided to Canadian clients. This is a hands-on role requiring a pragmatic leader who doesn’t mind delving into the day-to-day details.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Canadian business unit. Oversee all aspects of Canadian operations, with a primary focus on service management, ensuring clients and staff are happy, and that your team has the support they need to succeed.
  • You’ll also serve as a key executive in BooksTime’s global organization.
  • Learn BooksTime’s existing service processes and implement them for the Canadian market, adapting where needed for the local context, and improving them as well (we’re always looking to improve the way we work).
  • Hire, train, and manage Canadian team members. The majority of staff who report to you will likely be Senior Accountants, who supervise and review the work done by our global bookkeeping teams, and help with high-level client communication.
  • Build a training program for BooksTime’s current global bookkeeping teams on Canadian bookkeeping.
  • Coordinate with BooksTime’s teams in other countries to leverage shared staff and resources related to as IT, recruiting, service provision, and more.
  • Collaborate with and support marketing and sales staff as needed. These may include folks on our existing teams as well as future hires on the Canadian team.
  • Ensure all Canadian operations comply with local laws and regulations, including tax compliance.
  • Most of all: provide leadership and vision to build and scale the Canadian branch.

Key Expectations:

  • Maintain a stellar reputation for the BooksTime brand in Canada – among both clients and employees.
  • Ensure our service team has the training they need to deliver excellent bookkeeping services to Canadian clients.
  • Enable fast growth.
