ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring an experienced Compliance Counsel within Ericsson’s Compliance Office who will lead the Compliance Office Strategy & Initiatives unit. The Compliance Office is responsible for developing and implementing a best-in-class compliance program, fostering a culture of ethics and integrity, ensuring that Ericsson’s Code of Business Ethics is followed, and identifying, preventing and mitigating misconduct. Members of the Compliance Office ensure Ericsson’s dedication to integrity in its culture and ways of working, build trust with stakeholders, including enforcement authorities, and ultimately drive the company’s sustainable success through a culture of ethics and integrity. Ericsson’s Compliance Office is global, and supports Ericsson’s nearly 100,000 employees and operations in approximately 180 countries.
The holder of this role will be responsible for enhancing the Company’s Ethics & Compliance strategy and program, assisting in operationalizing that program throughout the Compliance Office, coordinating Compliance Office efforts across various teams, assisting in identifying emerging risks and designing program changes to address those risks, and assisting in responding to fast-moving developments. The role is a supervisory position and will manage a team as well as coordinate closely with other members of the Compliance Office and other Ericsson functions.
This position will be located in Washington, DC or London, UK, reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer & Head of Investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to enhance the Ethics & Compliance strategy and implement that strategy through the Compliance Office, in consultation with other Compliance Office leaders and stakeholders. Responsible for design, implementation and continuous improvement of the Ethics & Compliance framework and governance.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Compliance Office operations, and coordinate and support by identifying areas for improved efficiency, simplification, digitalization and automation, ensuring a cohesive, well-functioning program in alignment with the other Compliance Office leaders.
  • Stay current on emerging issues, the risk landscape, and evolving regulatory expectations with respect to compliance programs and provide practical advice about strategy, implementation and operations in response to new developments and to address emerging risks.
  • Assist in responding to fast-moving developments and compliance problems, often requiring a multi-faceted solution and collaboration across a matrixed organization in time-sensitive situations.
  • Coordinate support within the Compliance Office of business areas, market areas, and other functions; collaborate with colleagues in Legal, the People Function, Corporate Audit, Internal Controls, and others.
  • Give legal advice in connection with compliance matters, particularly involving application of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and in collaboration with colleagues handling anti-money laundering, international trade, antitrust, national security, and human rights matters.
  • Apply sound legal judgment to address gray areas and interpret and apply the law.
  • Manage outside counsel and other external service providers as needed, overseeing the scope of work, budget, staffing, and tasks.
  • Provide legal advice on internal Compliance Office policies and assist in drafting guidance documents, presentations, and other compliance materials.
  • Gather and analyze data to look for patterns and trends; use data to make data-driven, risk based decisions and to improve Compliance Office operations, in alignment with other compliance and assurance teams.
  • Assist and advise in compliance strategy concerning the use of artificial intelligence in Compliance operations.
  • Manage periodic review and continuous improvement of the Ethics & Compliance strategy and operational plan and oversee implementation of the plan.
  • Present to the CCO, executives and senior stakeholders about Compliance Office activities and operations, including status and progress; prepare reports and presentations for a variety of audiences about the Ethics & Compliance program.
  • Advise and support subject matter experts within the Compliance Office, management and other functions regarding development of the Ethics & Compliance Program initiatives, including with respect to design, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Act with integrity, objectivity and fairness.
