About the Role:
As part of our Climate Transition Action Plan, AGL is in the process of closing our thermal power generation assets and replacing them with renewable energy and battery storage (BESS) assets. We have targets of 5GW by 2030 and 12 GW by 2035.
As the Head of Construction Excellence you will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategic roadmap that includes quality, governance, planning, standardised procedures and streamlining of function processes to support the successful and safe delivery of renewable energy and battery storage (BESS) construction projects. You will be responsible for establishing and leading the fit-for purpose governance and integrated framework for the project portfolio. You will lead the integration of all functional areas and provide expertise and advice for the seamless operation of the Construction Business Unit.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Establish, evaluate and adapt systems and processes to ensure the success of construction project delivery
  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated construction management system to support the development and execution of construction projects
  • Establish and drive strategies, processes and systems for AGL’s Climate Transaction Action Plan
  • Influence and lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver construction projects that adhere to relevant standards and best practice expectations from all stages development to execution
  • Manage the strategic functional areas for the construction project portfolio, including governance, quality, compliance and sustainability
  • Collaborate with construction project teams to drive outcomes at the site level
  • Provide advice to senior leadership on strategic priorities related to quality, compliance, legal and regulatory, ESG / sustainability and environment
  • Create, implement, evaluate and adapt change management strategies to support the delivery of construction activities and initiatives
  • Lead the development of construction reports, Board papers, business cases and strategy papers
  • Develop relevant project charters and drive effective collaboration and communication between site teams, workstreams and key internal stakeholders
  • Provide visual leadership and develop, mentor and coach team members, including instilling a safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable working behaviours and attitudes
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to manage and communicate project objectives

About You:
You will ideally be an experienced leader with a strong construction and project management background. You will thrive in the development of strategies to future proof and automate processes to ensure best practice is achieved across the project portfolio. Your advanced understanding of risk management, quality and governance will set you up for success.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or similar
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Effective project management skills. PMP or PMI certification is preferred
  • Extensive experience in construction management for complex and large scale projects. Renewable energy project experience is preferred
  • A strategic approach to process improvement and change management
