YOUR KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• 7+ years experience in Data Engineering/Architecture (or similar).
• Broad knowledge of different technical areas (DevOps, Engineering, Architecture, Various Datastores, etc).
• Experience with real-time data streaming and event-based architecture.
• Experience working with the latest cloud data trends and technologies.
• Proven team leadership and management
• Strong proficiency in SQL & Python.
• Designing and building data warehouses & data lakes, including data modeling and mapping using techniques such as medallion and star schema (Experience with BigQuery a bonus).
• Data pipeline/ETL Development, building ingestion pipelines that produce scalable data products as outputs for analytics.
• Cloud platforms, especially GCP services such as GCS, BQ, Cloud Functions, and Dataproc.
• Familiarity with containerisation and IaC tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Worked within an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proven track record working with clients.
• Desirable: Orchestration frameworks such as Dataform, Airflow, and GCP Workflows.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Head of Data Engineering to design and develop the future features and functionality of the Xfuze Platform and to take part in client deliveries, including involvement in the roadmap, planning and prioritisation of new requirements.
You will have a product mindset and think productisation at every step of the way. You will contribute to the data strategy with the CDO.
We need a low-ego, highly collaborative leader who can work with the teams, provide guidance, expertise, and support to successfully deliver our core platform to our clients.
You will line manage data engineers as a technical leader in the company. You will inspire your team and they will look up to you to guide them. You will make sure that internal governance and process are followed.
You will work closely with the CTO, CDO, client teams, Xfuze platform team, stakeholders, and your peers in the technical development team, ensuring all requirements and views are resolved into a strong implementation of the Xfuze product.
You will be a dynamic thought-leader in the field of data and AI and will be passionate about tech and keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies. They will be comfortable working with different tools as needed and sharing that knowledge with others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical leadership to a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
• Contribute to the data engineering strategy & roadmap with the CDO and the members of the Product Steering Group.
• Design and implement scalable and efficient data architectures that support the business objectives.
• Work with Product Owners and Delivery Leads to prioritise and orchestrate work between squads, deliveries and engineers taking into account skillset, etc.
• Set strong engineering practices , repeatable patterns and quality, in coordination with other engineering teams.
• Drive change and continuously improve the company’s data engineering practices & maturity.
• Provide governance through the technical design authorities.
• Evaluate and select tools and technologies that align with the organisation’s strategy in close collaboration with the Platform and Product teams.
• Set and track technical metrics to assess the performance of the team and the solutions they build.
• Help the organisation scale by improving our onboarding, training, and SDLC processes.
• Data Quality engineering, implementing patterns that clean and enrich data in reliable ways.
• Represent Xiatech and data engineering to client calls, presales meetings and industry conferences on a regular basis.
• Mentor and improve the technical skills of other team members through peer reviews.
• Work with clients to analyse requirements and implement solutions.
