Description:

With offices in the UK, USA and South Africa, we are a growing Travel Management Company specialising in the charity, academic and not-for-profit sectors, and we are proud and passionate about what we do.
We are currently looking for a Head of Engineering who will be responsible for leading the technical team, both in the UK and offshore. The aim of this role will be to drive excellence in engineering practices, provide technical guidance & support for all changes and ensure good architectural design that aligns to our business and technology strategy.

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, this is a hybrid role and will require 3 days in our Manchester office. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing fit-for-purpose engineering practices and providing guidance and oversight to maintain these standards
  • Supporting the CTO with defining the Application Strategy and communicating this effectively across the business
  • Responsibility for ensuring delivery is aligned to the Application Strategy, adapting to business and technology trends to ensure it remains an appropriate way forward
  • Undertaking architectural design, ensuring we maintain good documentation that supports effective and high quality development
  • Working with the Head of Product to build and executing product roadmaps and ensure that sprints are aligned
  • Leading the UK and offshore Engineering teams, undertaking 1:1s, appraisals and building a culture aligned to our company values
  • Responsibility for the engineering budget, tracking and forecasting with support from the CTO
  • Maintaining a good knowledge of emerging technologies and identifying opportunities for how these technologies will enable the business to achieve its strategic objectives
  • CI/CD implementation experience
  • Experience delivering successful business value incrementally
  • Managing, coaching and developing hybrid engineering teams, on and offshore
  • DevSecOps practices and the ability to appropriately implement them
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Ability to work in a complex technology ecosystem within a fast-paced business
  • Ability to think creatively and balance technical design against business needs
  • Positive attitude to keep projects moving forward in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
