ABOUT US

The Research Development team is part of the broader Research Strategy and Operations team (led by the Director of Research Strategy and Operations, and reporting to the PVC Research and International), which also has responsibilities across Research Governance, Policy, Pre-Award functions, as well as working closely with the Doctoral School, Research Culture and Environment team, and relevant colleagues in other Professional Service Departments such as Libraries, Finance and Communications and Marketing.
Developing highly functional relationships across Schools and Professional Service Departments is an integral part of how we work, and we strive to provide a high quality service to our academic community. Our team includes individuals with a mix of experiences and backgrounds, both at NTU and beyond, and we are working hard to ensure that we continue to build a positive culture within our team. We operate on a hybrid basis, with colleagues combining working across our campuses and from home. There is a focus on colleagues spending some time every week co-located with other team members, because we know the value of building relationships, sharing intelligence and ideas, and feeling part of something real.
We are building on three key principles: Confidence in NTU as a research informed institution; Credibility to undertake research of the highest quality; Collaboration to deliver research that changes lives. We have recently refreshed our Strategic Research Themes (Health Innovation; Safety and Sustainability; Digital, Technology and Creative) which encompass all our Schools and will be dynamic and bustling with activity. They will be the vehicles through which we tell our narrative.
For any informal queries about the role or the team, please contact Rebecca Stokes at rebecca.stokes@ntu.ac.uk

Responsibilities:

We are looking for an entrepreneurial Head of EU Research Funding, with significant expertise in EU funding to join the Research Development team at NTU. Our aspiration is to grow our funding portfolio across all our disciplines, and across a range of funders; further developing our engagement and success with all three Horizon Europe Pillars is an integral part of that process.
While the ability to navigate the operational side of EU funding is an important part of this role, the successful candidate will also be someone with the skills to develop relationships across our academic community, and with prospective partners, both academic and non-academic. They will be someone who is genuinely interested in research, understands the value and challenges of multidisciplinary approaches, and the importance of delivering impact beyond academia. The successful candidate will be someone who quickly assimilates new information and intelligence, makes intelligent linkages between different people, projects and opportunities, and has the tenacity and organisational skills to work with our researchers and their collaborators to develop clear, detailed, coherent project proposals. We anticipate that the majority of the role holder’s time will be focused on Horizon Europe fundings streams, but where there are cross-overs with other related funding streams, there will also be opportunities to work with colleagues and collaborators to develop large, strategic bids with other funders, for example, CDTs, Research England E3 or UKRI Centres.
