The Head of Finance, Canada is a key member of AXA XL’s America’s Finance team and will provide technical accounting support, oversee both internal and external financial reporting for the relevant Canadian companies and delivers strategic business support as required.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Oversee the financial close and reporting process for an insurance and a reinsurance branch in Canada. Within this process, duties will include but may not be limited to:
• Managing both an onshore team and an offshore shared services team to complete the branches’ P&C returns for OSFI and ancillary regulatory filings
• Optimizing the branches’ capital position
• Working with cross-functional departments and external consultants such as actuaries and tax experts to meet other regulatory deadlines.
• Communicating financial results and regulatory updates to senior management and branch board committees
• Taking the lead relationship with OSFI and other local regulators on finance and branch related matters supporting the chief agent and legal/compliance
• Performing independent accounting standard and regulatory guideline research and writing memos to document the branches’ position in these related matters
• Primary point of contact for internal and external audits of Canadian branches
• Business partner and liaison on all finance matters to the chief agent and chief underwriting officers
• Active participant in planning and strategy related to Canadian branches
• Coordinate with tax consultants to facilitate periodic tax provisions and direct/indirect tax filings with appropriate authorities
• Liaison with actuarial consultant to complete the financial condition testing and appointed actuary report on loss reserves
• Financial management and reporting for a service company and Lloyd’s cover holder
• Appropriate design and execution of processes and internal controls
• Ancillary finance responsibilities related to budgeting, expense management etc.
• Assist and liaise with other departments within AXA XL on matters/projects that may impact Canadian companies
• Develop and coach internal team members through complex concepts and processes
• Other ad hoc duties and projects as required

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

• Qualified accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent) with at least ten years post-qualification experience in the property and casualty (re)insurance industry
• Outstanding knowledge of the IFRS 17 accounting standard and also the OSFI regulatory environment for P&C (re)insurance companies preferred
• Extensive (re)insurance product knowledge and expertise preferably obtained through working experience in the industry
• Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products
• Working knowledge and experience with Oracle, Hyperion and Anaplan
• Excellent people management skills
• Ability to navigate a matrix organization and balance multiple priorities
• Must possess outstanding analytical and report writing skills as well as solid organizational and communication skills
