WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
We are looking for a qualified solicitor admitted to practice in England and Wales, with at least 6 years’ post qualified experience, ideally combining experience within a reputable law firm with in-house expertise. You’ll also have;
- Previous in-house experience within a complex, highly regulated industry, with a focus on service delivery.
- A track record of working with a wide range of commercial agreements including logistics and technology.
- Expert understanding of contracts, commercial and public procurement law.
- Excellent communication (written and oral), negotiation, drafting and organisation skills.
- A professional and collaborative approach, with the ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business and with key external stakeholders (including the Government and Network Rail).
- Experience of competently analysing complex legal issues and risks and being able to communicate them in a manner that non-legal colleagues can readily understand.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of delivering excellence.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of all functions across the business, with in-depth commercial awareness.
- Ability to assess legal risks and provide legal advice and support in a commercially focussed and pragmatic manner.
- Ability to work in a highly autonomous role.
- A high standard of knowledge and use of Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Business Services team as a Head of Legal and Industry Partnerships based at our Head Office in York. As our Head of Legal and Industry Partnerships, you will play a pivotal role in working closely with key stakeholders including the DfT and Network Rail to help LNER chart a course through Rail Industry Reform and the creation of Great British Railway as well as safeguarding LNER’s reputation in relation to relevant regulatory and legislative requirements and ensuring compliance and providing strategic direction in the management and response to legal matters and topics.
Reporting into our Finance Director, you will be responsible for developing, managing and implementing LNER’s overall strategy and approach to both working with industry stakeholders and providing proactive and pragmatic legal support and in doing so, ensuring alignment with our broader strategies. You will provide accurate, relevant, commercially focussed and timely advice to colleagues across the business on a wide variety of topics whilst also offering support in relation to the roll out of key business initiatives and the delivery of our Annual Business Plan commitments. In particular, you’ll work closely with the Risk and Assurance and Procurement teams to ensure LNER complies with all applicable agreements, laws and regulations.
