Role/ Department:
Northern Trust provides their clients with comprehensive Investment Operations Outsourcing (IOO) middle office solutions covering the full universe of: Trade services; asset services; client reporting; performance measurement; derivatives operations and collateral management.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate to manage Market Operations function within IOO, which includes the Trade; Cash Settlements; Cash Posting and SMART Oversight teams and as well as the Operational Support team, who support both client and internal business change.
This role is a senior point of contact for the above services and accountable for the service delivery of these functions.
You will be required to effectively collaborate across all management levels - with both IOO clients and regional IOO/GFS stakeholders; ensure respective Market Operation functions deliver on client service KPIs; strategize and deliver change for optimal growth; input into Control/Risk reviews and support the wider IOO Business in meeting Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
The key responsibilities of the role include:

Operations Management

  • Lead and manage daily operations to ensure seamless service delivery & operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective oversight of operational activities performed by all locations servicing GFS EMEA IOO clients, including Shared Service functions.
  • Utilise key performance indicators (KPIs & KRI’s) to evaluate operational health and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement operational policies & procedures to enhance productivity & compliance.
  • Manage team performance and provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Manage and resolve operational conflicts and client escalations that may impact service delivery to IOO clients.
  • Represent IOO Market Operations in Corporate and Control/Risk reviews.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Utilise data analytics to provide insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards to track operational performance & efficiency.
  • Conduct regular analysis of operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

Digital & Data Transformation

  • Drive digital & data initiatives to improve IOO operational processes and client experiences.
  • Collaborate with IOO Product, Transformation & IT teams to implement & enhance digital & data tools/solutions.
  • Work with both Clients & internal Servicing teams to promote and drive adoption to digital tools/capabilities.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions.

Market/Industry Representation & Engagement

  • Provide senior representation at Investment Operations related industry recognised forums.
  • Working closely with industry peers & relevant third parties to lead/guide efforts to establish industry best practices, standards and to perform horizon scanning across the market/industry including product innovation and regulation.
  • Provide senior Investment Operations representation at relevant client prospect pitches & related due diligence sessions. Lead the engagement with each prospect to navigate through the detail and potentially complexities associated with capability delivery and servicing requirements of each prospect.

Regulation, Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks through effective control measures.
  • Ensure compliance with Ops Resiliency requirements as defined by both Regulators and clients, including through active testing.
  • Coordinate with the compliance team to conduct regular audits and assessments.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with senior management to align operational strategies with business goals.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, and partners to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Represent the operations team in cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • The role holder will have responsibility for client and industry interaction ensuring upcoming changes and capacity are managed effectively. There should be no surprises on service or future change priorities.

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Strong understanding of Middle Office functions acquired through related work experience.
  • FCA Principles
  • Knowledge of tradable instrument types – Bonds; Equities; FFX; Repos; Cash Instruments; Unit Trusts.
  • Knowledge of market and central depository practices.
  • Understands the trade lifecycle from Execution through to Settlement.
  • Experience of Market Systems – Xceptor; CTM; ALERT; MISYS; CLS; Bloomberg; Failstation.
  • Proven track record of managerial oversight and/or leadership.
  • Previous exposure to dealing with senior management, both internally and externally.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Solid understanding of Fund Admin; Transfer Agency and Custody functions.
  • IOC qualified (Minimum)
