We are recruiting for a Head of MedTech Innovation to join the MedTech Innovation team in Innovation, Research, Life Sciences and Transformation Strategy (IRLSS). Candidates will ideally have knowledge and experience of policy and programme development and delivery within complex, high-profile and fast-paced environments.
This is an exciting time to be joining the team as the innovation landscape continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and as we increase our ambitions to scale, at pace, the adoption of the most beneficial technologies that will improve outcomes for patients as well as yield wider benefits for systems and for our economy.
We are looking for a self-starter, who has experience in MedTech (including digital) innovation, has lead complex programmes of work, and can drive successful delivery of high-profile initiatives with and through a broad range of partners and stakeholders.
As Head of MedTech Innovation, the post holder will lead the development and delivery of MedTech Innovation (including Digital Innovation) policy, strategy and programmes to facilitate and drive the scale and spread of well-evidenced, beneficial health technologies in the NHS.
They will have knowledge of key players and trends within the technology sector, understand the MedTech development pathway, and have experience of working with or in companies developing and deploying products, ideally within the NHS environment.
The role requires knowledge of approaches and methods to developing clinical trial and real world evidence for technology products, including digital health technologies, as well as the ability to engage with innovator companies on technical, policy (including regulatory policy) and scientific detail related to technology.
Knowledge and experience of barriers, enablers, levers and incentives to the adoption of relevant technologies will enable policy to be formulated and understood by all stakeholders, and to be successfully delivered to meaningfully and sustainably scale uptake of the most impactful products.
The NHS England board have set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:
Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.

Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation

Core to this will be leading the development and delivery of a new Integrated Rules-Based MedTech Pathway that aims to scale, at pace, selected categories of MedTech innovation that have the greatest potential to improve healthcare and support NHS priorities.
The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team, supporting managers and staff, in delivering an effective MedTech (including Digital) Innovation portfolio that aligns with IRLSS’s overall goals and objectives.
