Description:
Are you an experienced, inclusive, sensitive, and forward-thinking senior midwife seeking a challenging role in our dynamic Maternity Services rated ‘good’ by the CQC which is working towards ‘Outstanding’? This is a unique opportunity, and we are looking for a very special leader to join us as Head of Midwifery & Nursing at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn.
We are proud to offer the opportunity to work in a progressive environment where we are committed to the continued journey of improvements of our maternity & children’s services. In order to make sustainable improvements to the services users we are looking for a credible midwifery & nursing leader, with a proven track record of compassionate leadership in a diverse environment, who can lead our services for the women and birthing people in King’s Lynn, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who reply on us for their maternity care, as well as service users from across Norfolk & Waveney.
Key to our vision is the development of a culture within the Division which is open to and empowers innovation, creativity and learning at ward and department level.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. We are planning a New Hospital build for 2030 and look to our staff to help design how our services will meet the changes that healthcare requires in the future.
This role will be a key influencer for maternity and nursing. Our vision is to be a high-performing hospital, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in Norfolk and beyond. This means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work.
We strive to live our values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and full advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.
We need an exceptional and visible leader with in-depth knowledge of governance and assurance mechanisms (included Care Quality Commission, Maternity Incentive Scheme and Saving Babies Lives v4), operational management experience of maternity & nursing services both in the community, continuity, and the hospital.
The Head of Midwifery & Nursing will work as a member of the Women’s Divisional Leadership Team. The role forms part of the triumvirate, Divisional Operations Director and the Divisional Director whilst also working with the Consultant Lead for Neonatology.
There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.
Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.
At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.
We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.
We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.
