The Chief Technology Office (CTO) manages IT infrastructure critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as computer platforms, storage, database, data centers, voice, video and data networks, infrastructure security, cloud hosted infrastructure, contact centre and end user services such as collaboration and workspace technologies.
Within CTO, Connectivity group provides services covering networks, security and contact centre, and we are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in a key leadership role as the global Platform Lead- Network Functions. The role will be responsible for the delivery, management, strategy and transformation of our Network Functions infrastructure which includes Firewalls, Load Balancers, Proxies, DDOS / WAF, NSX Internal Cloud, Remote Access and Authentication infrastructures which supports all our internal business stakeholders and external customers globally.
Reporting to the CTO Head of Connectivity, the role will work to ensure world class technology solutions in support of HSBC strategic outcomes across Speed, Scale and Resilience strategic pillars whilst accelerating the build out and development of a world-class CTO capability that attracts, nurtures and retains talent. The individual who will join the team will manage a direct team of approx. 88 people plus time and material/sow and vendor support partners (approx. 97 )
The person in this role will be commercially astute, an excellent communicator and able to partner strongly with executive level business stakeholders (Group General Managers and their teams). They will work with business leaders to define technology strategies, create new solutions and drive a culture of continuous improvement. They will also be partnering with key business stakeholders & other DBS and IT counterparts, at various executive levels of the organisation including in-country & global leadership (CEO, COO, CIO).

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proven experience as a Network Function Infrastructure Platform Lead in a banking or financial services organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge of relevant technologies and DevOps ways of working.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve their goals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical and business problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Able to manage a variety of senior stakeholder relationships and develop a trusting working relationship with them.
  • Demonstrable success in understanding and delivering towards customer needs in large, global, complex organizations.
  • Ability to work in an unstructured and changing environment.
  • Ability to influence teams to think “outside” the box and look at solutions / approaches outside traditional comfort zones.
  • Strong external vendor management skills.
  • Good business sense and commercial acumen.
  • Strong drive to get things done and work in an environment with many moving parts but still find a way forward.
  • Ability to continually question and reduce costs.
  • Leading and directing executive and non-executive work groups and effecting change through people.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements related to Network Infrastructure and Security Compliance.
    This role is based in Sheffield, but some travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • The role will be responsible for the delivery, management, strategy and transformation of our Network Functions infrastructure which includes Firewalls, Load Balancers, Proxies, DDOS / WAF, NSX Internal Cloud, Remote Access and Authentication infrastructures which supports all our internal business stakeholders and external customers globally.
  • Own relationships with business, technology customers and stakeholders to design, deliver and operate services which utilize appropriate infrastructure solutions, while ensuring they are efficient, cost optimal and highly resilient.
  • Drive the implementation of DevOps, disciplined Agile, and automation to efficiently deliver products and services while transforming the organization to become software engineering led.
  • Define the platform’s architecture and strategy and transform services to next generation solutions including cloud based.
  • Driving improvements to contribute to HSBC strategic transformation program and its key pillars of speed, scale, resilience and people.
  • Consolidate and reduce infrastructure complexity, driving the execution of cloud strategy.
  • Establish product management culture to ensure customer experience is in the core of all decision making.
  • Develop Cloud based platforms and deliver infrastructure “as a Service” by working with business and other DevOps teams.
  • Define global engineering standards, drive standardization and adopt engineering practices to drive automation in line with the controls to continuously drive safe change delivery and excellent customer experience.
  • Manage all vendors, including global carriers, hardware/software suppliers used in support of Network Function infrastructure delivery.
  • Establish partnerships with external organizations to leverage expertise and resources to deliver excellence in contact centre infrastructures within cloud.
  • Ensure service quality targets are met and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ownership of budget and approval flow, and vendor risk management
  • Manage and develop a global team, including coaching and mentoring to move to an engineering driven organization.
  • Adhere to risk management, controls and compliance standards.
  • Maintain the significant global estate through evergreening.
