REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree or equivalent in Surveying, Geography, Geology or similar.
  • Ability to lead a large team with varying capabilities, and across multiple locations, demonstrated by previous line management experience.
  • Experience of managing third party suppliers to time, cost and quality.
  • Confident negotiator with clear communication skills and ability to manage stakeholders at all levels.
  • In depth knowledge of fibre optic telecommunications network architecture and design knowledge of FTTP/FTTH.
  • Excellent personal organisation, ability to work autonomously and prioritise effectively.
  • Ability to ensure that the highest standards of quality and network integrity are maintained, and records updated accordingly
  • Full UK driving licence is a must.
  • Reside or be prepared to relocate within the network area (Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire).

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

Working alongside the Delivery & Operations Team, you will lead a team of Senior Network Planners and be one of the key players in the development and growth of our fibre network.
Our design teams play a critical role in our delivery from project identification and inception, through planning and delivery, and finally in-life change.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the Head of Network Planning will be leading a team with the responsibility for the pipeline of work through end-to-end process.
This role requires a combination of leadership, strategic thinking, technical knowledge, and effective communication skills to ensure successful network planning and delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and Strategy Development: Leading the team to produce high-quality, cost-effective designs while developing and owning the department’s strategy to ensure Wessex Internet remains a leader in the industry.
  • Training and Development: Collaborating with Regional Delivery Managers to train, coach, and develop the Planning Team, ensuring they are equipped to meet the demands of their roles.
  • Oversight and Compliance: Maintaining total oversight of the Network Planning regions, ensuring that all network and design principles are not only met but exceeded.
  • Forecasting and Resource Management: Managing the forecasting of design pipelines and resources to meet project deadlines and future targets, utilizing both in-house and outsourced partners.
  • Client & Supplier Relationship Management: Owning relationships with our clients & design partners and conducting service reviews to ensure quality and value for money.
  • Collaboration with Operations: Working closely with the Delivery & Operations Team to integrate new ways of working and technologies effectively.
  • Reporting and Budget Control: Producing monthly reports on design productivity and budgetary control, while also highlighting and mitigating risks to the Regional Delivery Managers and Operational Team.
  • Problem Solving and Innovation: Demonstrating the ability to think creatively and solve problems on the spot, particularly due to the use of unique build methods.
  • Communication and Coordination: Liaising with internal and external teams, as well as third parties, to ensure smooth project execution.
