Role Overview:
The Head of Quality Assurance leads the QA strategy for research prototypes and product development. They ensure that all research outputs and prototypes meet stringent quality standards before transitioning to production. This role involves overseeing testing methodologies, team leadership, and aligning QA practices with the organization’s research and development goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement the QA strategy for research and prototype validation.
- Establish quality benchmarks, testing protocols, and risk mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, and product teams to align QA objectives with organizational goals.
- Team Management:
- Lead a team of QA engineers, validation specialists, and test analysts.
- Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee recruitment and scaling of the QA team as the organization grows.
- Prototype and Research Validation:
- Ensure that prototypes are rigorously tested for functionality, reliability, and scalability.
- Oversee the validation of experimental algorithms, models, and physical prototypes.
- Collaborate with researchers to identify and address quality issues early in the development cycle.
- Process Optimization:
- Define and refine QA processes tailored to research and prototype environments.
- Implement tools and technologies to enhance testing efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and report on QA metrics, including defect rates, testing coverage, and compliance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with research and development teams to ensure alignment of QA practices with project goals.
- Provide feedback and insights to researchers and engineers to improve prototype designs.
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, if applicable.
- Quality Advocacy:
- Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the organization.
- Represent the QA function in leadership meetings and external engagements.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in QA leadership roles, preferably in research or prototype-heavy environments.
- Strong background in quality assurance for software, hardware, or experimental products.
- Deep understanding of testing methodologies, tools, and validation processes.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred:
- Experience with location-based technology, AI/ML, or geospatial systems.
- Familiarity with testing prototypes for scalability, performance, and usability.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in technology or research domains.
